置賜のふるさと工芸品⑤【長井刺し子（山形県長井市）】

山形県置賜地域の「ふるさと工芸品」の紹介映像です。
使い果たした布を重ね合わせ、糸を刺すことで再び布の命を復活させた、美しい刺繍に勝るとも劣らない刺し子の技術。
昭和53(1978)年頃、県婦人連の副会長だった鈴木みゑさんがこの伝統を保存しようと、地域の旧家に残されていた雑巾（布の補強のために刺し子をしたもの）を知り合いを通じて集め、縫い目を解いて技法を学び、独自の手法を開発・普及したのが長井刺し子です。さしこ教室でこの伝統を受け継ぎ、発展させています。
