My Chinese isn't good so I'm going to respond in English. I'm watching the show right now, and I disagree. She's sick and losing her memory, so she's learning to rely on those around her more but she's not a weak character. She pushes the story forward, makes decisions on her own and is highly assertive and intelligent. But you're right that her story is not about finding independence. She has independence and power. What she wants is support and community in addition to that. Most people want that. She finds (or thinks she finds) that through her husband initially but also her community broadens to his family as well as her own. Based on her backstory, she craves familial love. And is not a story about her needing him specifically. Because of her illness, she sometimes is "saved" by him. But at other times, she also "saves" him. Of course, I think it's also valid to ask why the writers would give a on-the-surface strong female character such an illness to knock her down a peg and make her need to be reliant on anyone but herself. Also the show hasn't finished yet so I might change my mind. But so far I think they're trying to make things more equal. All of the male characters and female characters in the show have their own forms of powerlessness. It's not just the female character
Ms. Zhou Dongyu is a beautiful, talented, and gifted actress and artist. She is a tower of strength and perseverance. My family has enjoyed watching all of her movies and dramas. She brightens up our day with her outstanding performances in every role that she has portrayed and will continue to portray. She truly brings her characters to life. She has this amazing gift that allows her viewers to feel, laugh, cry, and applaud. “Under the Hawthorn Tree.” We have watched this movie numerous times. The movie was beautiful, powerful, and deeply moving. The collaboration between Ms. Zhou Dongyu and Mr. Shawn Dou was absolutely brilliant. They both gave powerful performances in their roles. Considering the script these actresses had to work from in “Under The Light,” they all portrayed outstanding performances in their given roles. All of these ladies are beautiful and talented actresses. Thank you, Ms. Zhou Dongyu, for your hard work, dedication, natural acting skills, and for allowing us to be a part of your journey. We will always follow, support, and pray for “you.” 👏💫✨⭐️🌟💛🤩😊👏
