kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJbcZIehaKp1hKs。
@Diu Diu You're absolutely 100% correct! Most historians would give credit of possessing HK to Captain Charles Elliot, R.N., Plenipotentiary of Great Britain as well as Superintendent of Trade (Far East), and Commander of the British fleet that defeated the Chinese junks during the 1st Opium War. As Plenipotentiary, he represented Queen Victoria at the Convention of Chuenpu, which handed control of HK Island to the British in 1841 (formally ratified later by the Treaty of Nanking in 1842). I'm utterly shocked that Elliot's name wasn't even mentioned in the video! [Source: "A Borrowed Place - The History of Hong Kong" by Frank Welsh, Kodansha International, New York, 1993.]

@@andytan911 Opium war was British dark history they try to avoid to speak, and William Jardine was a big part of it. And we are that history by product.
@thomaschan50182 жыл бұрын
@@andytan911 I don't know which history book you read that from, but opium was a banned substance in China at that time, Jardine knew what this thing can do to people, and he took advantage of the whole situation. His company starting fortunes were come from selling drug, that all it is. And it is history that called him the greatest drug lord, not me.

@@hkchan1339 So opium was illegal in China at that time, at least we agree on that. I thought I needed to go to my history teacher's grave and demand an answer.
