You don't need one, you could get a huion/wacom/xp pen tablet (if you want a screen display, expect it to be a bit more expensive) but screenless ones like the wacom intuos are good for beginners. I use a phone tho to draw;, whatever software or device you use doesn't matter

It is based on your determination :D the supplies are just there to make it easier for you but the main objective is improvements. You gotta keep practicing and drawing everyday if possible to reach a level ur happy with :D

It's their sketch layer so yeah

I usually do that too, make sketch layer, colour in a new layer, combine those two layers then lower it's opacity, make a new layer and do the lineart, it's very common for digital artists to do that, it's literally what they drew before making a clean lineart. Some of us tend to colour my sketch before making the lineart. This is not someone's else art, it's literally theirs.. I understand your concern but you can check all their art, I'm sure they post wips (unfinished work) on their twitter
