it's strange that this song always reminds me of my mother who passed away more than 20 years ago. When I listen to it, I always think of her in her prime whilst growing up in Hong Kong. So nostalgic and sad. 75 now. Won't be long before we meet again.
A very beautiful song by Zhou Hsuan. It was a memorable but it conveyed a touch of sadness. Its a pity she died at an early age of 39.

Thanks for sharing these videos. I grew up in HK with her songs, this is the first time I actually see how she looked like. I felt like a little kid again. You would not know how homesick I feel right now, especially on this Chinese New Year Day. Thanks again, have a great year.

i'm 17 years old and i'm really hoping that people my age can listen to these 老歌 more. the last century china has really been a mess and it looks as if this generation we are about to just throw away the cultural legacy left behind.

Dear friends, I did some research and found that this recording is the best representation of voice of Zhou Xuan as it was. Most dated recordings were said by some to be "mickey mouse sounds" because of old microphones. This modern recording was made by RCA microphones the best state of technology in short for this movie shown. If one wants to really hear how Zhou Xuan really sounds, this is it. It is one of the best recordings technically of the real voice of Zhou Xuan.

You are 100% correct. If she would have remained in Hong Kong she could have lived longer.

@soulglow8 It was not broadcasted via radio or TV in Japan, rather, it was a record album given to me from a friend of mind. The Chinese school in Yokohama, Japan that I went to was essentially for the education of Chinese children of overseas Chinese parents (華僑), so that they would learn Japanese, Chinese Mandarin, and English. By the way, the school was located right in the heart of Yokohama Chinatown, and it's still there now.

@desertcat08 Thank you very much for your reply. It must have been a good school! Was it funded privately by the Chinese parents? Did the Japanese government fund it fully or partially? I'm glad to know that the Japanese leadership allowed such a school to exist at that time. I don't think China allowed Japanese to be taught in any public school after WW2. A few international schools existed only for the children of the foreign diplomats & business community, where English was taught.

@desertcat08 May I ask why would Zhou Xuan's songs in Chinese be broadcast in Japan after WW2? For my curiosity, why would there be such a concentration of Chinese children to warrant the operation of a Chinese school ( 中華學校 ) in 橫濱? In the 1960's, our parents' generation still had vivid memories of the horror & sufferings caused by Japan's aggressive invasion of China, they wouldn't eagerly work in Japan & send their children to a school there unless they had to! Please enlighten me.

@desertcat08 The most effective ways to achieve peace & goodwill among peoples of different countries is to encourage the understanding, respect & appreciation of each other`s language & culture. Later, singers & actors who were admired in both Japan & China (e.g. Li XiangLan, Teresa Teng…) have contributed to dissolving some prejudice, misunderstanding & hatred among the 2 peoples.

@desertcat08 Zhou Xuan, whose music would have enchanted the Japanese nationals while they were in China before the end of WW2, might have inspired some neutralizing effect on the induced hostility between the 2 citizenry. What do you think?

@desertcat08 Hi Desertcat! I am curious about your experiences growing up in Yokohama Chinatown. I'm currently researching the history of Yokohama. I met some people who attended the Yamate school, but not Chûka gakuin in Yamashita-cho. Do you know anybody who was a student there in 1952?

Hello. Does anyone know the meaning of "Bing Xue Yang de Cong Ming" in the lyrics? Why did the composer use Ice and Snow to describe cleverness? Can someone interpret it for me please? Zhou Xuan
@benkei242 I was only there for a year to attend my last year of high school in the mid 60's. Since I have had no contact with my former classmates upon my graduation from that school, I am afraid that I am unable to help you with your request, sorry!
