From what I understand, the closest thing you'd understand it as, is porcelain. It's a fine bodied clay with super fine girt that fires to white. Zisha, or Yixing, sometimes called 'purple clay,' is a form of Chinese Porcelain. :)

@@meatismurder111 Usual? Heh. Clay, like flour comes in a variety of different kinds. The most popular is stoneware, earthenware and porcelain. Stoneware has a good amount of grit, so you can make things that withstand heat. It fires at a really high temperature. Earthenware is most popular, I think, because it's versatile and fires at a lower temperature than stoneware. Porcelain is fine, fine clay. Some, so much so, they are transparent after firing. This is really general. In each category, there are countless variations, firing at different temperatures. I hope this helps answer your question. :)
