In 1950, the Korean War broke out, and the United States began to help defend Taiwan. The 327th Air Division of the Thirteenth Air Force of the United States stationed in Taipei City to assist the Air Force Combat Command of the Nationalist Government in setting up a "Joint Operations Command Center" in Chanchu (Toad) Mountain.
The Air Force built a military-dependents dormitories at the foot of Zhanchu Mountain, forming an Air Force Military Village, which was later called "Huanmin New Village", it has been registered as a cultural landscape of Taipei City, and it is the only fully preserved Air Force Military Village in Taipei City.
