The way I see it, the push power comes from stepping in then brutally extending the the arm when close enough and the opposite when he pulls the arm, back step then violently retracting the arm. Seems to be a proper example of unleashing all the powers from weight shifting into the opponent's body very suddently. Doesn't seem like a shoving/driving motion, but tensing up the entire body at the end of the weight shift to transfer the entire force into the opponent.

Nice short power, applied in most Southern Chinese MA. We apply the same principles in our Wing Chun. "Huen" escape from pressure, steal a step, Lap Sao etc.

So how does he develop that power? Are dedicated Xingyi practitioners powerful?

Thank you for that little bit of insight! The vertical against horizontal reminds me of something I learnt in karate, circular stops straight punches and vice versa. Ever come across this?

Good stuff, Will. Zhang looks like he has some serious short power. I wouldn’t want to take a beng quan from him.

He was very powerful, but also a total gentleman.

Monkey Steals Peach He seems like an affable guy. I’ve loved the Xingyi series, though I’m admittedly biased.

@@MonkeyStealsPeach is there any head movement in any of the systems of the masters you've visited? Head/body movement is very important in weapons systems especially spear since it's primarily thrusting weapon. Please let me know, AMTF
Nice house! I kept admiring the spiral staircase! Did you guys visit someone's house?
@MonkeyStealsPeach4 жыл бұрын
Yep, was his student's house. Typical northern Chinese hospitality. After filming the interview his student invited us all to his home for a huge feast and lots of alchohol.

Because it is said that Xinyiquan, mother style of Xingyiquan, was created by spear expert Ji longfeng who used spear movements and tactics to create a bare hand style...
