Zhiyun Z1 Evo Test - Yamaha TRX850

Testing a Zhiyun Z1 Evolution stabiliser on my Yamaha TRX850.
Stabiliser mounted to the motorcycle tank using a GPS bracket and a pair of bicycle handlebar mirror mounts, all purchased on eBay for a little over $20 AUD in total.

I just got a TDM 850 from 93'It sounds exactly the same, what a beautiful sound, i love it, wish me luck with this war tank!

If your's is from 93 they have really different sounds, the TDM fires every crank revolution, 360 degree between fires, the TRX Fires 270 degrees and then 450 degrees. TDMs built after 96 have the same crank, and so, very similar sounds.

Hello, today I bought exactly the same trx than you. Nice !! I saw that the temperature meter stay stick between 60/70 degrees is that normal. I can't see it very good on the video but with you it looks the same.

its not a very high revving engine, whats the power band like, strong low-midrange. Very neat bike mate.

It delivers very linear power almost all the way through to the 8k redline. It really gets nasty in the midrange, but it's a great engine for tight, twisty roads on mountain passes. Being "only" 80hp, you can grab big greedy handfuls of throttle on exiting corners, while all your mates on 150hp+ litre bikes have to be careful about doing that. On most mountain pass roads, you can just leave it in 2nd and grunt your way from corner to corner, occasionally shifting to 3rd on the longer straights.

that sounds like a bike I would be happy to ride. My bike is a sv650, goes bananas after 5000rpm but has no high top end pull, very torquey down low though. I will take a twin over a i4 anyday. Im a fan of the trx, I hope to ride one, one day. I love the sound.

is the trx 850 engine the exact same as the Yamaha TDM 850 engine?

I believe there are a couple of minor differences, but the mounting positions are the same.

You mentioned elsewhere that you've fitted an Ignitech component .What advantages does it give and is it easy to install?

It comes installed with a base map that smooths out the fuel delivery in the lower RPM range, meaning that you can run the bike down to 1500rpm in slow corners, and just roll the throttle on and power out with no snatchy feeling. It's also programmable, so you can put the bike on a dyno and create your own custom fuel maps. Very handy if you've played with the carburettor, installed a 2-1 exhaust, or done anything to the displacement. You can also increase the rev limiter. I haven't done any of that... I just wanted to correct the poor fuel delivery in low revs. Installation is a piece of cake... disconnect the stock ignition module under the seat... plug in the new one. The leads are pretty long, so it's sitting under the strap in the tool compartment.
