So after a whole year of watching those vids (every once in an while)…. I think i finally figured out what it might be, that is going wrong here and what basically keeps me away from ever even considering getting (or building one as a never ending project) one of these. If I am right the answer is simple it hurts a bit. They are simply missing an axis. A rotary axis at the bottom, that rotates the whole thing. If the game/program/demo rotates i.e. a digital plane around the z axis to change the heading and there is no z axis in real life to activate / move, the electronics controlling the existing axis might try to do something which results in completely strange movements. That might explain some of the movement not matching the inputs. The next thing is lags in the communication between game - controller - electrics and actuators. I assume without beeing an electrical engineer, that for very fast inputs, you need extremley powerful actuators with very short response times to inputs, as well as very sophisticated and powerful drivers…. Of Cours all this might only be right if those things don´t just simply follow a pre programmed movement pattern and the movement given by the inputs of an inmate is just not there at all.

It can be done but it would need to be somewhat bigger i.e. LxWxH. It needs to be bigger so they can get the full 6 axis into the machine. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKevfIaje7CVgaM if you watch the very beginning and ignore everything and focus on the giant ball (cockpit) you'll see how it can be done to make it a much more immersive sim machine.

Long ago I had the privilege of doing a professional simulator for the Airbus A380. Father won an hour flight time in charitable auction, at a function where I was a speaker for achieving a medal in the Canadian air cadet system. I would have been seventeen at the time. It was near Pearson Airport in Toronto. ANYWAY. Since you're in an enclosed space with warped screens, and no view of the outside, It does help the immersion experience. During takeoff, I asked the instructor "Wow, how come I can feel the "acceleration" if were fairly stationary." The pressure on my chest was increasing. He chuckled and said - "Just don't try to stand up." He reached out straight in front with his pen, and dropped it. It should have fallen onto his lap or something right? It shot past my head to the BACK of the cockpit, hitting the door to "the rest of the plane"/outside the simulator. Since the entire structure lifts / tilts it can give the sensation of acceleration. But TRUE physics in the cockpit, play with your mind. This is what most of these are missing, a sense of real acceleration. IMO. Becasue the simulator is for a big chunky plane, it only has to give a bit of a sense of acceleration that you can feel, opposed to a fighter jet, or a race car. This plane is designed to be a smooth ride, not a roller coaster where all the passengers barf after a cannonball of a takeoff.

You are asking to get your right arm torn off by that cross beam and/or scalped when your pony tail gets caught in the gear and chain. A nice idea, but *enclose* it! (Which will be necessary to maintain immersion as well. Unless you're in a totally darkened room.) These never move right for the motion on screen either. But at least that's just a software problem.

If it's a good one, it may look like it's not responding right. A good one would roll backwards if you accelerate, roll to the right when you bank left, but then again roll to the right and backwards when you roll and turn right, roll forward if you simply let go of the throttle, etc. It's hard to say things do not match inputs, unless you are in it, in my opinion. :)

Andries de Haan A reaction to acceleration and Deceleration would cause deviation because that the forces alter lift and thus attitude. Around the 1:30 mark the plane is near level and yet she is inverted. Her position should be close to, if not match, the aircraft attitude

Could be indeed, though if you are flying fast and drop forward, you might need to feel the experience of getting pulled out of your chair. Only rolling forward a bit might not be enough to make it feel real (meaning you need to be upside down). If before that you were making a hard turn, the sim is already hanging sideways. Meaning it will go from there to upside down, even if you fly straight and make a forward dive. The problem is that, for example, flying upside down and acceleration is the same move in a sim. That is a reason things might seem off. Though sure, this video may not be edited right or maybe this sim is not that great. Just wanted to point out it's hard to tell. :)
