Geoguessr's HARDEST Map has a SEQUEL

In today's video, I'm going to be playing the sequel to "Pain and Suffering", an extremely difficult new Geoguessr map. This version, however, is made to be even more difficult than the first version. Let's see how I fare!

10:07 I'm from Colo and those shrubs are Espeletias (we call them frailejones) and are only found in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela 😊 They're extremelly common in high altitudes!

Point scoring radius is brutal. That's what makes the average score so low.

Things appear farther apart on higher latitudes on a 2D map (with this projection type at least, don't remember what it's called). So you can miss by "farther" in the north or south and get less penalty because those two points in reality are closer than they appear. Think about how Greenland looks WAY bigger on a map than it is in reality, and Antarctica looks like it is the diameter of the whole Earth. Different areas of Greenland/Antarctica are actually much closer to each other than they look. As you get closer to the equator, the map distances become less skewed, so the same linear distance on the map is actually larger at the equator than in the north/south.

@@B3Band while this is true (this map projection is called mercator) and it does play a big role in score calculation, it's not the only reason. The score is calculated from both the distance of the guess (the geodesic distance, without projection) and the spread of the map itself, so that smaller maps (for example of small countries) require more accuracy for the same amount of points. So by reducing the spread of the locations in at least one of the 2 dimensions on the sphere (here the latitude spread is restricted), less points will be awarded for the same distance. You can see it for example on his Indonesia guesses, which would usually give more points.

@@Tvngsten It's "Bare det værste" in Bokmål Norwegian so I was able to fill fill in the middle word :P. Some dialects do use bara and versta

I'm Icelandic and can confirm :) Þþ and Ðð are pronounced like "th" in "the", but you let out more air on the second one. These characters are in Old English but Þ was phased out when printing press characters were imported from Germany where they didn't have the Þ, instead it got substituted with Y, which is why we have stuff like "Ye Olde English" but in reality Ye was always pronounced "The". Only in modern day do we say it how it's written.

1:48 directly before this video I watched Geowizard's newest one where he tries the Pain and Suffering map, and he got this island twice there, the foliage is quite distinctive. So immediately thought it's Nelson's Island xD

The ecosystem from the Colombia National Park you guessed Bolivia on is called "Páramo". It has very unique vegetation and appears at high altitude in certain places in the Andes, mainly in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

The strange letter "þ" (thorn) in the name is pronounced like "th" in "thin" [θ], the "ð" like "th" in "this" [ð]. By the way, "þ" has no relation to "b" or "p", it's a Scandinavian runic letter brought into the Latin alphabet of modern Icelandic. English had both these letters as well, but ditched them later.

If you didnt know zigzag8, the name of the map has some old english letters that are still used in icelandic, ofc im talking about eth ð and thorn þ. In bara Þoð versta, the þ is pronounced th like in THing and ð is pronounced th like in THe. Thats it, hope this helps and have a go pronouncing it in part 2 of this video!!!
