Another match I watched hundreds of times growing up in my living room. So much so that I learned the chants and even often practiced the exact moves that Zidane performed in this game. This was not his greatest game. But even a top player will have moments that will stand out from the other players in a quiet game and Zidane had that in this match. I do also remember that Thierry Henry played very well in this match as a lone striker.

What an elegant player! Clarence Seedorf, during the later stages of his career at AC Milan, displayed the same type of serenity & class. We (France) are not going to see a player of that caliber anytime soon. There are good ones, but these ones come once every 20 years.

Incredible how dry that field was! Ball just stops all the time when it is on the ground. Nowadays football fields are watered much better. No wonder Italy was so great at defence here. I watched this match at my grandparents' house, on a TV from 70s, where the picture was lost for almost the entire match (but not the sound). At least at home I had a video player set to record via timer. Then, after get back home, I played that match all summer long))

Italy actually did a good job against Zidane in this match. It was almost a tactically perfect match by Italy. But the French substitutes made the difference...Pires, Wiltord & Trezeguet

It was close to impossible to take the ball from him without a foul, which is a quality that allowed his teams tempo control, and he was perfectly capable of delivering something extra in terms of passing or scoring in crucial times, and also dribbling and controlling highlights. Nonetheless, he very often was extremely pedestrian, especially in his days prior to Real Madrid, when his teamates werent as superlative
