This was one of the under-appreciated goals of Zidane probably partly because the result was 3-0 for Juve! but I think it was one of his most brilliant technically, starting from his positioning, controlling the ball in a manner that gives him space enough and slight advantage over the defender and finally placing it where even Buffon at his peak can't stop it. It's these kind of chances that not many appreciate its aesthetics but insanely hard and unforgiving in the precision it requires, someone like Gerd Muller scores those kind of goals.

And speaking of Zidane, he was really good that day. Probably the best in overall poor, not in best fit Madrid. Zidane was motivated, wanted to score goal first time visiting Turin since he left. More shots from him then usual (6 if I'm not mistaken here on the video). But quick and too easy goals of Juve in the beginning decide it all. As well as unscored penalty kick by Figo. Sad. I have never rewatched that game, too painful. Especially because it was Juve (never really liked that club, even (!) when Zidane was in it, and I was (and am) really obsessed with Zidane). This is first time I watch more then goals from that match since. Oh hell.

@@nordinehank6178 no, I said "not in best fit Madrid" because Ronaldo was injured, doubt till the last day and only sub on in 2 half. Raul did not take part in the first match due to appendicitis surgery, and his recovery was forced for the second match, and he basically said on press-conference "I'm not in my best shape". And also Makelele was injured, and that one didn't not played at all. Before the match, speaking of absence of Makelele, Alfredo Di Stefano said: “Now we are going to realize the importance of this player for Madrid. A lot of zeros have been put on in the newspaper ratings for Makelele, but his work is vital to the team's performance.” And, also, before the match Roberto Carlos just said: "The team is tired"

Even today, all I could think of....what if Figo had scored that penalty...? Painful memory. After that epic tie with Man Utd, I expected Real Madrid to be in the final...

That is from book of bus driver of Real Madrid Fernando Manso about that match: In the first match at the Santiago Bernabeu, we won 2-1, with goals from Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos. A score that left the question of reaching the final completely open. In Turin, the atmosphere was hellish. The fans started intimidating the team from the moment they landed. I remember that hundreds of “tifosi”, some of the most radical, gathered outside the airport terminal, throwing all sorts of objects at us and shouting all sorts of swear words. They tried to break the windows of the bus. The players were amazed at the tension in the atmosphere when the match was still more than 24 hours away. On arrival at the hotel, same thing. Hundreds of Juve fans were waiting to throw everything at us. Many sang outside the hotel door all day. Some even spent the whole night in front of the hotel with the intention of keeping the players awake. All this to reach the final and they had already started their match. The next day the trip to the stadium became a real trap. The police only provided us with one car to escort us to the stadium. Given the reception, this was clearly not enough. I would even say it was reckless on the part of the security forces. To make matters worse, the police took us through streets that were too narrow, where the most radical groups of fans were waiting for us, who had prepared real ambushes for us in the form of human corridors that were very difficult to move through, given the situation. We were easy targets and they threw everything at us. I don't want anyone to think badly of me, but I think it was done on purpose to intimidate the team. In fact, I never stopped honking and waving at the police car in front because it was moving at turtle speed when I should have done the opposite to avoid dangerous situations. “Fer, we're not getting out of here alive,” Del Bosque told me. He always said this phrase when he saw that our business was bad. He told me many times about similar situations. I think that's when the coach started to realize that it was going to be hellishly difficult tonight. We didn't have a single window broken, but punches of glasses, bottles and rocks of all sizes, numbered in the dozens. There were even fans who pounced on the bus to hit it. It's crazy. Upon arrival at the Delle Alpi, the players were greeted with a collective “boohoo” and other objects were thrown. There were hundreds of “tifosi” there with a very aggressive attitude. As the players were getting off the bus to go to the locker room, one of these radicals managed to bypass the police cordon, which is quite unsurprising because there were only four police officers, and attacked Roberto Carlos. He walked up to him and slapped him on the back, causing him to almost fall to the ground. I have never encountered such a tense and unpleasant situation. But rather not because of the hostility of the fans, but because of the feeling of insecurity. During the match, the atmosphere was also terrible. It was hell. And the result of the first match spurred them on even more. In the blink of an eye, Trezeguet scored, 1-0, and now the score was in Juventus' favor. Later Del Piero and Nedved made it 3-0. The stadium exploded. Figo failed to score a penalty and Zidane's last goal, the first time he returned to Turin, was not enough for Real Madrid to reach the Champions League final. It felt like Juventus ran over us like a train.

3 - 2 would've taken Real to the final, as they won the 1st leg 2 - 1 making it 3 - 3 and real scoring more goals away!
