Hi Nicholas. Thank you for this. I will share it with the IPTV discord channel I'm on (as I did with your Ugoos SK1 review, which garnered a lot of conversation which I moderated, since I'm always a huge fan of Ugoos) 😅 Your rankings placement for this was spot on! For one thing, this model requires too much "extra work" and items that don't come integrated: Special ROM for Google PlayStore & Services; Special tool to gain developer access; Special tool for root access; Sideloading (which can be a huge upkeep pain), etc. And it's not just the extra up-front work, but each of those will need to be manually updated on an ongoing basis. Also, it's settings interface is super proprietary, which you must learn. Also, UI not customizable. On the other hand, I understand that given the nice remote. (I hope Ugoos improves theirs too, even though I don't use it, and instead use a keyboard with an integrated trackball mouse). In summary, ROM design is as important as the Hardware, and I think that was a miss with this offering. If they work on that, that will be great. Competition is good. 😊

Good observation but there are 3 Reasons. 1. my TV is not 8K, so 8k res is not available under the display settings to select. You have to connected to an 8K TV to get that option. 2. It's very difficult to play other peoples KZbin videos without getting a copyright warning or strike especially those 8K videos. 3. If I played an 8K video it would still be corpped into a 2160p frame, because connected to This TV that's the maximum resolution that's allowed for the UI

It's not official Android TV OS but a custom ZIUI interface built on the Android TV OS SDK. So it doesn't feature built-in Chromecast

First you start with the television. When you play in Netflix video does the Dolby Vision feature activate? That is provided you have an HD account. If it does then you do not need to adjust any settings on the TV. If it doesn't, you need to check the display settings under TV to ensure that the Dolby vision feature is enabled or set to auto. Next on the Zidoo UHD 8000 the interface should be the same as the one featured in this video. Under display settings check to see if HDR is enabled and a set it to auto. You don't need to set the Dolby Vision always on four individual formats. Also remember that for Dolby vision to activate when playing self hosted videos the videos you are playing needs to actually be in the Dolby Vision format. UGOOS has always been my go to for customization but zidoo is giving them a serious run for the money..impressive..I do have a question...getting Google play installed one would have to use the firmware on their website.....so will that version be getting updates after installation ..and if yes will one have to go each time to the website to obtain it... Hi Nick, enjoyed the review as always. Looks a nice box, I like the Zidoo menu, it's a challenge to use at first but once you get used to it's good. But I won't be buying this or any other Zidoo box again, last one I had they never did solve the Google play services issue, they tried a couple of updates that failed & then support just ignored the problem. Box ended up in the bin, a real pity as on the odd occasion it did work the potential was obvious. Stay well my friend, all the best 👍🍻

I think you need to retest the Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe as I have an Antutu score of 136652. What I noticed about the device when it first released was one of the CPU cores would randomly get pegged at 100% and I think this is what happened when you were testing.

The external SATA cable had long been a feature of this series. The whole firmware with play serves is rather messy. Not having an updated Android version is concerning. Considering the price, like many of their products from the past, not really worth it, especially with there being more capable competition these days. The competitor to this would be a box with the RK3576, which would be worth a comparison to this new and about time AMLogic SOC. This is often pitched as a niche device but not quite so in 2024. Both of the Zidoo boxes that I owned had very poor cooling and throttled very quickly, so I hope that things are better now

@@theloft9310 I have audio passthrough disabled. Video decoders set to auto with the exception of the HDR10+. I have that to activate the Dolby Vision instead. I have AI upscaling set to low, so 1080p videos look much better. And HDR set to auto.
