Just to clarify, 7th edition was the stupid one that used a card system right?
@tabletopgamingwithwolfphototecАй бұрын
@monhunterz5430 An D&D 4th edition and Warhammer Fantasy roleplay 3rd edition also leaned heavily onto cards. Yet he also did those.
@monhunterz5430Ай бұрын
@@tabletopgamingwithwolfphototec I'm not saying he wouldn't do 7th edition because of the card system, I'm just commenting on how stupid 7th edition was to add a card system to a ttrpg, which as we know is a terrible idea.
@tabletopgamingwithwolfphototecАй бұрын
@@monhunterz5430 Yes it has cards. Defining if it is bad is a matter of looking at it and playing or running it.

Traveller's character creation is probably the coolest of any game I've played, even if it doesn't let you do a ton to mechanically distinguish your character from every other character with similar skills. Pendragon is on a long, long list of games which sound like they'd be awesome to play if I had a group willing to engage with its unique elements, which I have never played because I'm not sure my group would be.

I think I gave White Wolf a lot of leeway for their editing because at the time I was also playing Rifts and other Palladium games. “Page xx” pales in comparison to a 500+ page rulebook with no index and rules copied and pasted from other parts of the book (or different games altogether) complete with the same typos.

34:34: The correct choice. I feel _so_ much spite for WotC not wanting to number its editions any more. 7:35: What, do you _not_ think the infinite diversity of mutant bodies is innately sexy in a way no group of ordinary humans can match? 16:25: Possibly the best idea this game has. I _love_ games which force you to consider background and personality and so forth as a basic element of character creation. They're not the right choice for _every_ game, but more games should use them. 29:43: Between how useful pack animals are in stuff-heavy games and how incestuous the post-apocalyptic and Wild West genres are, the fact that Gamma World 6th Edition's designers didn't think anyone would want to have a horse is _absurd._ Looking at Gamma World 6th Edition, it's amazing how terrible D20 Modern is as a generic system. GURPS has its flaws, but anyone who knows about the Gamma World setting and GURPS rules can make a better Gamma World supplement for GURPS than this. D20 Modern is just not designed to be a generic game, even though that is its nominal purpose. Of course, you could also argue that D20 Modern's _real_ purpose was to convince D&D fans to buy a halfway-familiar WotC product when they wanted to try (for instance) a sci-fi RPG, instead of picking up _Shadowrun_ or _Paranoia_ or _Cyberpunk 2020_ or _Traveller_ or any of the million other games designed to be the kind of thing you want to be. I think that's kinda dumb, but there are people who make sci-fi hacks for 5e, so I guess there's a market.
@AnonAmouse-d2tАй бұрын
So "pure strain humans" were genetically engineered to be better than "stock humans"? If that's the case, it would almost seem like the pure strain would be more a parallel to mutants, except that mutants arrive at their mutations randomly (chaotically), the pure strains' "mutation" were designed and engineered (lawfully). I also have to wonder (risking d6 sanity loss) that if they'd allowed mutated plants, would some of them also have been genetically engineered as pleasure models? And, if so, which plants, particularly?
@zigmenthotepАй бұрын
Well, wer're talking White Wolf in on 2003, so probably some kind of pitcher plant with an entire page describing their attracting pheromones.
@Bluecho413 сағат бұрын
@@zigmenthotep On the one hand, including so many "this character option originally exists for sex" is uncomfortably horny (not to mention just uncomfortable in general, if not morally disturbing). On the other hand, _knowing the human species,_ if you gave a society the ability to perfectly craft organisms, some of them ABSOLUTELY would be used for sex. That's just taking the base premise and taking it to its logical (if horrible) conclusion. For better or worse, White Wolf was often very good at that.

After you're finished with this series, make a character using 'The Robotic Age'. It's this cool indie RPG by Preston Poland where you get to design your own robot (or human or cyborg) character, design their weapon and have them fight in a 22nd century Earth that's spiralling out of control!

Gotta say, as a World of Darkness fan, I got a good chuckle out of implying White Wolf's only noteworthy contribution was the Street Fighter Storytelling Game. EDIT: On the subject of Proofreading, or lack thereof, one must understand that this book was released firmly in the "Revised" era of White Wolf's history. When they were cranking out books at a stupendous rate. I imagine editing errors are less a function of not "believing" in proofreading, and more just an inevitable result of shoving as much product out the door as possible.

As for new series to cover. Shadowrun, Deadlands, Tunnels and Trolls, Fading Suns and/or Mutant Chronicles. Bonus points if you want to tackle the Aliens adventure game from the early 90s. It’s the only game I’ve ever seen where your character can die during character generation.

I get the idea of having a universal system makes learning games easier but goes against my belief that the game rules can enhance the type of game you are playing. If you use the D&D system for other games they inherently feel like D&D. For some this may not be a bad thing but for many it’s not great. The thing is TSR learned this in the late 80s with their first attempt at a Buck Roger’s game.
