One of the very few cars left on the market that comes in diesel AND gas options, the Honda CR-V is an interesting choice for car buyers.
We have the high-end AWD diesel CR-V in the dark corner and the entry-level gas CR-V in the white corner-the only trim available for petrol lovers.

I just bought the gas variant for similar reasons you’ve highlighted. After 2 weeks I found out that the gas variant has no hood insulation which is a very basic feature. It makes me wonder what else Honda left out in the gas variant but wasn’t published.

Thank you for the nice review between the 2 crv variants, it’s very instructive, yes for me gas variant is better , my 2011 crv is gas and still is in good driving condition with regular Honda maintenance. I will prefer the same crv gas in the newest model . Thank you , you helped me made up my mind definitely between crv diesel 7 seater & gas 5 seater 👍

Excellent and lengthy review of the newer Honda-CR-V with some emphasis on the difference between gasoline and diesel powered models which perked my interest because admittedly, I am not well versed with the diesel powered cars. However, this may just be purely academic knowing that the use of diesel-powered engines is being phased out in general and the push is towards the use of Hybrids and EV's.

How long honda will be producing the diesel engines in your country?

I believe that the next generation CR-V that will be launched this month will sadly no longer have a diesel option 😢. There's going to be a hybrid and a 4x4 variant, though!

While the diesel variant is more fuel efficient and quite torquey, I would still go for the gasoline variant of the CR-V for its smoothness and refinement. 😊

I got to discuss the diesel's FC at about 10:17 :-) I got crazy good FC from the Diesel CR-V. About 12 km/l in the city and about 19 to 20 on the highway. Those are hybrid numbers! Honda giving it the 1.6 liter Turbodiesel was a great choice.

Excellent review and comparo! I hope Honda would add a top of the line gas variant in there line up with 7 seats, panoramic sunroof and honda sensing. Sort of two top of the line each for gas and diesel variant. More option for customers and driving enthusiast.

That's true. It is interesting how even the diesel S variant has several features over the gas-powered S model, thus really making it feel like an entry-level choice only

You'll definitely enjoy the torque advantage (and maybe even the AWD) of the diesel when doing a fully loaded climb!

I own the top of the line AWD diesel variant. We went to Baguio for 3 days and 2 nights, went around the city everyday. We just used up half of the full tank when we arrived back to Manila.

No problem when overtaking. Just make sure to downshift early.

No worries! During my tests the transmission on the diesel variant was fine but wasn't really as surefooted as the one on the gas. 😊

Nice comparo! If I may ask, how tall are you, brother? Just between these two, I would've chosen the gas variant for the gear lever alone. It's just faster shifting gears with that one and less confusing. Plus quick maneuvers like adjusting forward and backward in quick succession is just easier. But it having no third row seats is a bummer. Speaking of the third row seat, and seating in general, this looks tight for quite a wide and chunky vehicle. So for the money, I wouldn't choose neither. I'd be looking at more spacious, true 7-seater crossover SUVs.

Thanks!! I'm 5'11 to 6 feet depending on the weather hehe plus I'm wider than most guys :-) so if I fit inside, that shouldn't be a problem for the average Filipino. If not for the benefits of the diesel in terms of fuel efficiency I'd go for the gasoline variant any day!

@@RealRoyRobles Got it. Thanks for the info! I'm about 5'8". I own an Ertiga GL and that is probably one of the most spacious MPVs in the market, especially in terms of third row seats. I remember you being comfortable in the Ertiga. Makes me proud. Hehe.
