This is a good idea- get a land and build it yourself. Please be careful when buying land in Africa, be sure that you are dealing with the right owners and that you get genuine documents. I will suggest that Erica's father arranges it for you if possible , you don't deal directly with them but of course your input is there

Maybe you could live somewhere like Daman, India a country halfway between Tanzania and Tianjin with tropical weather. Ziheng doesn’t like the heat of Tanzania and Erica doesn’t like the cold of China

Ziheng, make sure the title to the land is clear, free of liens, and the property lines are clear. Go to the Bureau of Land, or whatever their equivalent is. Get proof in paper and keep it for future reference. There should be markers as to where your property starts and ends. Access to roadway is also very important. Make sure there is no other property that maybe vacant right now that would later be blocking your access to the public roadway. You will not want to be coerced into forever paying for access through their land. Clarify your ability to become a property owner as a foreigner. Make sure you are comfortable with it. It would be no problem if marriages these days do not 60% of the time end up in divorce, 70% of the time if it's a second marriage. I certainly hope, if and when you get married, it will be for a life time. It is wonderful to have a happy and lasting relationship. Just a loving advice from someone who has lived 7 decades. I wish you both well.

This area did not look so good. When I bought my land ,built a house there were some considerations such access to transportation, hospitals, supermarkets, schools. I live within 10 - 15 minutes of these amenities. Keep looking you will eventually find something.

My piece of advice while purchasing land in Africa, there are good organised neighbourhoods and bad ones. Don't sink your money in a bad neighbourhood. Go for a decent neighbourhood where your kids can grow in peace.
