I taught this little girl in the early 2000s at Kozo Suganuma’s Drum School in Yokohama Japan.I was a guest instructor for Kozo and I used to teach at his School for a month or so of each year She was about eight or nine back then and she used to take lessons in a class setting with a group of much older students; teenagers young adults etc. She always showed up with her mom who would sit in the corner like a typical Japanese mother and just watch her daughter take drum lessons! She used to take lessons from me once or twice a week!and she was so serious and focused even back then but she was a nice little girl very respectful extremely cute and a very focused, very quiet, she didn’t talk much but she was very appreciative of the lessons. I remember I was showing her a lot of the FRED GRUBER stuff which I taught everybody in JAPAN back then and she took to it like a duck to water! serious student! she was actually better and learned her lessons better than her older classmates! As I recall!

Senri isn't just about speed although she's incredibly fast. she has great control over tempo and is fluid. she also has perfect posture which is so so important. Yoyoka has the same sort of instruction I have noticed. Her posture as well is correct. It seems like the up and coming Japanese drummers really focused on great foundations. So critical!!! Everything starts there. Posture first then kit placement. These girl's know this.

She's so legit. I kinda got sick of average female Drummers getting more attention because they were female and not really a great player. But senri is the real deal. And now as she's aging she's developing deep dynamics and groove. She has earned her place as one of the upcoming world's greats, not because she's female but because she kicks ass.

I've seen some other "female drummers" on YT (they're just drummers, I don't see people saying "female violinist/pianist" but ok) and most of the times they're just wearing jeans and tank tops. None of them was dressed "sexily", but even if they were, that wouldn't affect their ability to play, if they are actually good musicians. Apart from this, its someone's (mostly guys) fault if they choose what to listen to based on how the performer is dressed. Lastly, Senri is an awesome drummer, there's no need to "validate" her by putting other, mostly imaginary, sexy drummers down to prove that.

Little Tips: She released 7 mainly CDs. Solo 1st“A La Mode”, 2nd“Buena Vista”, 3rd“Cider - Hard & Sweet-”. And “Kiyo*Sen” Project (Senri with Japanese organist Kiyomi Otaka. Progressive rock fusion!) released 1st“Chocolate Booster”, 2nd“Duology”, 3rd“Trick or Treat”. And, “KKK-Core” of KKK-Core. That's all. Her master is Kozo Suganuma (菅沼孝三). Kozo and Keisuke Komori(小森啓資) are two big drum educator & player in Japan, I think. I wrote same things in Drumeo's video. Sorry.

She is so Extreme i don't even bother going, on youtube to visit any other Legend Drummer's co'z this Girl is the Icon star from Japan. This & with her bowing with manner's, it is just the best thing i have ever seen, even i for get to do that after playing a Drum Solo in the street but i do say Thank's have a nice day while Singing on Drum's. I also like how she never flip's or spinning the Drum Stick, like a Heavy metal Drummer, i kind of get sick of that kind of thing to much, from Drummer's i never spin stick's ether, it's because i play in Church a lot & i get no joy out of it. As Long at Senri Kawaguchi Keep's doing her gift's like this she will have me smiling every Drumming Video on Earth.

WOW! This is one of the few videos where I've heard the drums with GOOD microphone setup - where you can hear EVERY and ALL of the drum set. The only other performance I recall being recorded so well was a live Chicago concert on DVD where not only the drums but every instrument came through clearly. Of course I can see where Zildjian has to get the recording right to show off their product! The cymbals came through so clearly, especially with headphones! Lastly, it's a tribute to the talent of Senri to be invited, I hope she had a fun time after the performance checking out Massachusetts.

@TronciM5 жыл бұрын
Of course it doesn't matter, why must musical ability depend on gender? Also I hate people who say females can't hit the drums hard enough, like really? It doesn't take much force at all to hit drums.
@paulygspeaks73085 жыл бұрын
Hmm I think gender has a lot to do with it. Maybe not physically, but quite possibly mentally. How many females drummers do you see that kill it like this lady does? Not many in comparison to males. Traditionally I think females play more of the classical instruments. So in reality, gender does play a role lol. Not to mention male drummers have to work a lot harder for viewers and subs than a “cute” female drummer play a garbage 4/4 beat and getting 10x the subs. But I realize that wasn’t really the point you’re trying to make about gender.
@MFink-oq5hy5 жыл бұрын
Gender matters. Not because women are less capable or oppressed but simply because less women are interested in drums. A female drum virtuoso is a rare gem, and she certainly is one. I think a better way to word it would be “she is excellent by any standard”
@thefirmicutes84715 жыл бұрын
M. Fink yeah, people are always interested in what's extraordinary, there's nothing strange with it. So what you said is a point - female drumers get more attention because drums are rather a manly thing, something like football, just that.
