alot of buildings like this in the UK we keep the front wall and then knock the rest of the building behind it down and replace it with a modern building lets you keep the same feel for the area with out limiting you to the old building plans and methods

Or just refurnish them inside and decorate the outside and don’t knock down anything

In the Virgin Islands we can’t tear down those old Danish buildings even if it’s completely destroyed if there is one stone from the original foundation there you must build back the original build with period authentic material aswell the outside has to be all original style but you can do whatever you want on the inside and if done right the buildings look amazing there several I’ve seen look better than most houses now

Zimbabwe should contact UNESCO and ask their help to declare these buildings UNESCO World Heritage Sites - I guess once it is declared a heritage site, you get grants to preserve them, right?

Might help you raise money from someone, but you don't automatically get a grant. In fact it probably works the other way. Getting UNESCO status is competitive, so cities and countries spend money on trying to get recognition.

There seems to be a prevailing theme in the clip and the comments. How exactly is a few buildings built in the 1800s when there was legislation to ensure I wasn't allowed inside them a history I am supposed to keep and cherish, even calling it a "legacy"? If this was taken to a referendum of sorts, save for a few buildings with specific colonial relevance, that would in turn be converted into learning centres/ museums I would rather have the rest completely demolished!

Why does it matter, whether the buildings are "colonial" or not? What matters is how they can be used practically. If people can live in them, what's the problem with them being built in the colonial times?
