I produced a few tons of zinc stearate in the 70s when I worked at a small chemical plant in Montreal (H.L. Blachford Ltd.) ). As I recall, the main ingredient was wax and no hazardous materials were involved. The only time I had to wear a mask was during the bagging process because of the dust. Never saw it on fire or smoldering. (just for fun, here's how I made the stuff. It took 3 factory floors to make a batch. On the 2nd floor, the ingredients were blended in a big ass floor-level mixer until it looked and felt like caramel gravy. Once mixed, I opened a pipe to release the slurry into a tray to be picked up by a giant water-cooled steel wheel on the 1st floor. The stuff hardened and chipped off after one slow rotation and I'd gather the chips into a dozen or so 50-gallon drums made out of cardboard. I'd wheel them to a freight elevator to the 3rd floor and pour the chips into a big floor-level grinder. The powder was then blown down a tube to a bagging machine on the 1st floor where I'd fill 25 bags to a pallet and complete about 10 pallets a day).
