There are very few recordings featuring both Zinka Milanov and Franco Corelli. Milanov was ending her career around the same time Corelli's was coming up and they were signed by different record labels. It is fortunate that this performance survives. It is truly exciting to hear Milanov's velvety tone next to Corelli's. The sound is very good and the performance is red-hot.

One of Milanov’s best later LIVE performances, IMO. Corelli, is fine as usual in this role & for me Guelfi is the perfect voice for Scarpia, IMO, & I have hardly ever heard a more exciting voice in this role. Not all of the Italian baritone roles were suited to Guelfi’s singular & often rough vocal timbre & but this was certainly one of them. I am still looking for a recording of him as Michele in IL TABARRO which, I would imagine have been another signature role for him.
