Almost exact same story for my family of three. We were forced to move out of our Oakland home (a house in Montclair that sold for 700,000+ and needed tons of work) on March 30th. Two--- TWO landlords that had offered us their homes as rentals retracted their offers before we could sign a lease. One actually told us that a single tech guy had actually offered more monthly rent! We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to move in with family in the same neighborhood, but demographics are changing quickly. The Oakland I love is losing its soul, and I'm deeply saddened and disturbed. I'm an artist and an educator. My husband is a writer and musician. We are being told in no uncertain way that we no longer belong.

Its every where went up. Got gentrified out of Eugene Oregon after getting gentrified out of the bay area, well moving out on my own couldnt afford to live in the bay straight up. Ended up in Jackson CA. Home of jackson rancheria casino. Small town of like 5,000, every town until you get to the valley small still like that besides Sonora. Rent was still $1200 a month. I paid $1200 a month to be in the college town of eugene, now Im in podunk small town jackson ca its the same price? Id rather be struggling in an active community than struggling in a rural small town but damn what do I do to get ahead move my family to like North Dakota?

Ive been recently thrown back into the rental game after 7 years. I was renting a room in a large victorian house near Lake Merrit for 375 back in 2009. Got into a room with someone who bought a house after that, but they recently sold, forcing me to look for housing again. Now a SHARED bedroom goes for over 1k. To make things worse I have dogs. Pretty much makes renting impossible anywhere

Born in Kaiser Permanente Hospital, in San Jose, Ca. My old home as of today, is worth over 1.5 million, which for the type of neighborhood IT WAS, is ridiculous, but then again, all those people aren't there anymore, like myself nor any of my family. @@zionitv I feel ya too, ever since a year ago when i posted this, i just wanted to go back to the Ocean, beaches, whatever. But having family out there too, helps. Especially the right kind of family that help and support your dreams, not like my pops. Lol for example, THC is definitely a cash crop now, and my dad used to grow it, hang it from the rook of my uncles garage, and would say, i gotta go see " Uncle Herb" but now, living in Az, and putting a prop 215 sticker on there, since i visited when it was fully legal in California, and now, just acts differently to it. Most definitely, especially in Az, and with all these fools stopping short, or cutting you off if you flip off the wrong person. For example, my ex put a restraining order on me, and 4 SUV cops showed up as i was working from home. And literally, kicked them out of my parents house. Out here, cops show up, like that scene in 'Harold and Kumar where they get aressted for J-Walking, and the other guy says " i was at a barns and noble, next thing you know im in this shithole! " and over the radio. All the cops in the station leave because of their overzealoussness, and gunshots are heard over the radio and they all, look like idiots for saying "Oh i wanna go! No j wanna go! No me!" And the poor african american was in his bed, and took him due to racial profiling. But thats really happening here....and i did nothing to my ex, and her kids to deserve being humiliated in front of my parents house, and their friends, the neighbors. But i know shits just rough everywhere. But Stay up yall! Yeah, I lived in a small 3-bedroom 1998 in Silicon Valley Rent $3200 a mo. and my little girls pre-school was $2400 a month for two kids!!!! I left in 2003. Sad the SF Bay area has become a 'Rich man's land' not the city of the people I wandered in 1971-76 and the powerful protests in Berkeley! Guillotine the 1%. Grew up in Rockridge in a 2 bdr. house my dad bought in 1976 on an SF State professor's salary. My mom was a homemaker. Crazy to think one state employee's income could support a middle class family in a pretty nice part of Oakland back then. Now that little house is probably worth a million, and the black and Latino families who were on our block are long gone. My dad sold the house in 1990. It's 90% white and a few Asian families now.
