One of the item descriptions in that area explains: "Spirits are eternal, and yet frenzied flame melts them away regardless." So Torrent, who is a spirit steed, is probably scared of that area because it's filled with the only thing that can kill it. Also, in the game Torrent "dies" many times and you can revive it by using your flask, but if you do the frenzied flame ending, then Torrent dies for good.

I just finished the DLC and bro…why is nobody talking about the similarities between Ranni and Miquella?! Miquella is shown to have 4 arms in the final boss fight, as we know Ranni does too. And if you get grabbed twice by Miquella he says “let us go together” as well as getting that gesture. That is the exact same thing Ranni says in the Age of Stars ending…hell, they both even say the same exact phrase about a thousand year voyage, just guided by different things. Ranni being the stars and Miquella’s by compassion. These are far too many similarities to be just a coincidence, I’d love to hear peoples thoughts on this.
@reperfan44 ай бұрын
Plus they both sacrifice their literal bodies as a means to cast off the things holding them back. There's a few big differences though. Major spoilers after the break, just to be safe: First - Ranni sacrificed her body to attain autonomy and defy her fate. Miquella on the other hand was attempting to fulfill his predetermined fate rather than fight it. Second - Ranni only sacrificed her literal flesh and left her spirit and her sense of self intact. Miquella sacrificed not just his body, but also things like his love, heart, and kindness. Lastly (and what I think is the most obviously telling about how they were different) - Ranni actually owns up to being a manipulative schemer who's realizes she's just doing what needs to be done since she believes the ends justifies the means. Miquella literally gave up his capacity to love and willingly utilizes brainwashing powers to force others to do his bidding, yet preaches that his rule would be guided by "compassion" without realizing the hypocrisy of his actions. Rule under Miquella would be just as if not even MORE oppressive than it was under the Golden Order, the only difference is that now all races would be equally manipulated under his thumb rather than only some of them.

@@reperfan4Ranni also acts out of genuine, uncompelled love, and ultimately tries her best to not take choices away from others. The entire latter portion of her quest is pretty explicit about it. She sends her loved ones away to protect them, not realizing Blaidd and Iji will sacrifice themselves to keep the Black Knives away - "tell them I love them" implies she never thought they would die for her immediately after. She also tells you to leave... But gives you the key to the chest containing her engagement ring, which gives YOU the choice whether to follow her or not. Every part of her quest requires that you choose her of your own volition; whether it's starting the quest by seeking her out, or refusing to give her the Amber Draught. And of course, she never gave up parts of her personality to do all this. Even her ending, at least as originally written in the Japanese text, is about freedom. Freedom from the meddling influence of gods, something that mortals are literally powerless to resist. Her solution to the problem is to take the order that governs the natural laws of the world far away beyond the night, where no one can see or touch or feel it (not taking away emotions; the English translators messed up). Without being able to touch the physical manifestation of Order, there is no throne of Elden Lord to fight over. No gods to crush people underfoot. Just the distant stars and moon to watch over the world. In contrast, Miquella, while initially well-intentioned, is so single-mindedly obsessed with his goal that he inadvertently sabotages any chance he has of achieving it. The Gate of Divinity demands purity - absolute power for an absolute being. But being pure and perfect and absolute isn't something a person can be, because people are complex and flawed and that's what makes then interesting. The world isn't perfect either. So a god of perfect light can only ever blind and burn the world with his radiance. He would shrive clean the hearts of men, taking away their desires for power and conflict... But in so doing he would destroy what makes them people to begin with, their will. And he doesn't even realize that abandoning doubt and abandoning love can only make him a tyrant surrounded by puppets, because what is compassion without love? In the end it's because Miquella is a child. Cursed to remain that way eternally, both physically and mentally. He has a child's wish - to make the world better by making all the adults stop fighting. Even if that means forcing them to, like dolls in a dollhouse being made to kiss and play house.
@jerrbear5958Ай бұрын
I also believe both of the endings would have been essentially the exact same thing. Rannis ending is explicitly one which has no outer gods controlling it, meanwhile Miquella was all about wanting the outer gods out of the world and even though he never says specifically the age of compassion would be about that I think it would be

@Ziostorm @7:28: Since the DLC basically confirms Melina as Queen Marikas daughter (by indirectly referring to her as Mesmer's sister who shares the power of flames to burn away roots/branches of the Erdtree), we can finally fully interpret her ending cutscene. Queen Marika defeated(!?) the Base Serpent and sealed it away with her scarseal inside Mesmer's special eye. So it's quite safe to assume, with all that we know about The Gloam Eyed Queen being Marikas enemy before, that she defeated her aswell and sealed away her power with her scarseal inside Melina's purple eye. So by following the analogy to Mesmer, Melina basically inherits he power of the Gloam Eyed Queen now and should be able to use it, when necessary. (Which is probably what's hinted at with her ending cutscene. Awakening that power to follow and fight the player character for ultimately betraying the Golden Order with Rani.)

I really like this idea. To your point on at 7:24, I have a theory that further connects the Gloam-Eyed Queen and Melina. And I believe that it can all be explained with Marika's karma of constantly birthing children who are cursed with ghosts from her past. In the first trailer for the DLC, we see Markia ripping grace out of some flesh. I believe she tore grace from a giant snake's eye and I believe that this giant snake was the Base Serpent who was the God during the time of the crucible. We also know that Messmer is her son and was born with the "Base Serpent" inside of him and that there was nothing she could do to quell his suffering except to seal the serpent away and have him embrace the sins he was born with. Seeing that Melina and Messmer are confirmed siblings, I believe that Melina's curse included having the powers if not being the reincarnation of the gloam eyed queen herself. The Base Serpent sealed in Messmer's right eye and the Gloam Eyed Queen Sealed in Melina's left eye. I think it's quite fitting. > Markia kills the Base Serpent to gain divinity? It comes back and lives in her first born son. > She starts a genocide against the Hornsent people? Her first twins are born with Horns. > She kills her rival? Oops, her rival got reborn as her daughter.

Unless there's some other piece of lore that I missed that mentions the separation of the lands and states it wasn't Marika who did it, but considering it's probably got to do with the big veils hanging off the Scadutree, it had to have happened after the Erdtree was already established, right?

I would assume that meant the land of shadows existed when the erdtree was basically the crucible? I could be misinformed on that exact nature. I still think my point stands that it’s not super weird that there’s no connection between the gloam eye queen and the land of shadows as gloam eye queen did exist independent of Marika and was an emperyean in her own right. I just dont see why she’d or her followers have any business in the land of shadows but i could also see it if she was there. Isn't putrescent knight locked behind like two dungeon boss fights? And bayle, had to go through a dungeon boss as well as a dragon boss gauntlet to get to him (ik you can skip the two dragons prior, still gotta go through the dungeon boss tho). And anything after rellana you can't even get to, because her defeat is essential to progressing the map. So you realistically have dancing lion, rellana, and you can reach putrscent knight before rellana but you gotta go through a boss or two. You can also kill bayle before rellana as well, but again gotta kill bosses prior to him So you really got 4 options as a first remembrance boss. The thing about the sword of light/darkness is that it's not specific to altars, but by order of acquiring and visiting. Whichever altar you visit first will give the sword. The second will always make it light. The third will always make it darkness. I know this because this is the 2nd way I seen it told for an order, and my order was a 3rd order of at Rauh first, then behind the golem for light, and Fog Catacombs for dark.
