We've had those in Australia for some time in our workplace in multiple locations, they are not as robust as you think, they break down quite often. You can't put the boiler / cooler in the attic, the distance the water will have to travel will be too long. It has to go below the tap. Why?, well if you want boiling water it will have to displace the cold water in the line before the hot flows. The unit will only boil a certain amount of water, if that amount is less then the water it has to displace you will have to move it closer to the tap.

Same, the ones in our offices are always breaking down to, useless. We see the ZIP mechanic everywhere, he's a busy guy.

@@chrisrosie0584 I Was also under the impression that the unit also empties the Lines between the Unit and tap when idle, so that when you demand boiling water from it, it will then fill the line with already boiling water. And the Unit likely uses / needs Gravity for the purge to work correctly. Which is also why when you make a demand of the unit, the is a delay of about a second or so before you get anything from the spout ive noticed.

My one has one incoming water line, one chilled water hose, one boiling water hose and a steam venting hose so 4 all up and they don’t come out of the same hose if that helps. I’m into my second one now without any issues apart from the big initial up front cost of the unit. Chris

Totally agree regards robustness, have worked in two commercial locations and regularly see them requiring maintenance, it might be different for residential models. I also thought that the attic install is impossible. The carbonated/sparkling water component is too difficult to change for personal taste, so if some prefer more bubbly water than others there has to be a compromise because it doesn’t operate like a soda stream in that you can personalize the intensity. Good in theory, back the practicality questionable. Would be looking at a Bibo water boiler/filter in my opinion.

We have them at work. Cold and hot water is instant. I'd worry that pipe run would slow the delivery of cold/hot. Plus the unit itself may get taxed trying to supply enough cold/hot to the tap. The unit maintains a small but permanent amount of cold/hot water. I hope it works out. The ability to instantly make a tea and then immediately fill a bottle with cold water is worth the $$$

Coming from a background where I use jockey box beer dispensing systems, I wonder if having a remote location of the chilling/heating unit will pose any issues. Even with that insulation on the water line to the faucet, that will be a lot of water sitting in that line in between pours that will become room temp. You may find you will have to purge Luke warm water before the cold or boiling water comes out, resulting in a decent amount of wasted water. Also, does the machine have the pumping power for the resistance of the extra line?

It looked like Scott was getting his dry ice from Airgas. So once you start getting your dry ice delivered. You can also get food grade co2 from them as well. Then just set up a bottle exchange, and have them deliver it when you get your dry ice.

I was wondering the same, why would you need additional "co2 cartridges?" Are those not cylinders you can simply take to get filled?

You don’t need CO2 refills from the company, they give you two so you have a backup, then find a place that sells food grade CO2 refills. A lot of beer homebrew shops do and can refills those tanks

I recently went down this rabbit hole for a solid RO water solution and came up with nothing. 6k for this is insane! I ended up doing a really nice beverage faucet and a good (as I can find) RO filter system in the basement with a couple of tanks and a delivery pump. Hooked up the faucet and Ice maker with perfectly tasteless RO water. I'd suggest you put a RO system in front of this unit to get the purest of clean water in. Relying on a one or two stage carbon filter of the unit leaves some PPM in the water.

1100 CFM? for a 36 inch stovetop? I'd love to know if you've considered makeup air in your hvac system. Your house is sealed tight and that will create serious vacuum pressure in the house. Would be great if you could cover makeup air as its something I've struggled with in a mountain house with fireplace. Thanks Matt

Matt, I’ve heard your frustration with this and the lights, and several other products. Welcome to my world. You’re buying commercial architectural products and let me tell you that the world of commercial architecture and building is orders of magnitude, no joke, more complex than residential. I’ve built both, for many years. For the most part, residential has a low price spread for basic bricks and sticks cost, the biggest difference is quality of finishes. Commercial, on the other hand, has. A. Spec. For. Everything. I mean, it’s ludicrous how complex it can get. I worked for a design build firm and even though we were pretty specialized (financial and educational) our finishes library alone was ridiculous. And our price point was mid range. Some of this high end stuff can get insane. But back to the main point. There are just SO many ways to order stuff. Ceiling tile for suspended ceiling. Ok, you see a pattern you like. And you want it a little classy, so you chose 2x2. So do you get the cheaper version with 15/16” grid and flat tiles? Or 9/16” grid and tegular tiles? Are normal tiles ok, or does your ceiling system need to meet a certain STC (sound) rating? If they are in a wet area, do they need to be moisture resistant? Mold resistant? What’s your fire rating, do they need a fire rating? That’s like 8 SKUS right there. For one style of ceiling tiles that the general public would all think are the same. And what if you don’t want all the ceilings in the building to match? Lights are the same way. You might see a 2x4 LED troffer but again, what’s the CRI rating? What color temp? What voltage range? Does it have an emergency backup? Sealed from gases? Weather resistant? You get the idea. If you do this for a living (specify and buy these products as we did) your architects know something. But you rely on a network of people to fill in the pieces. MEP engineers specify mechanical specs. They work with the architect and suppliers reps to specify what exact skus are needed. Those supplier reps order from the manufacturers. Most items are not stocked, they are usually custom built. Lead time can be 4-12 weeks. Or more. It goes on and on. And on and on. So the reason that this system is in place, is that there are so many items to specify, indeed, even so many divisions of items to specify, that there is a network of distributors and reps that exist to navigate the maze for those that design, specify and build commercial buildings. There really isn’t a “click here to order”. The closest thing you’ve done so far is probably the pressure washer kits. Think about how when you’ve changed pressure washers, you’ve had to change fitting sizes and types, nozzle sizes, etc. Imagine doing that for everything in, say, a commercial auto dealership. So it’s not a perfect system, by far. There are some really terrible distributors, and really helpful ones. Some manufacturers make it easy on the designers, some make it impossible. But that’s kind of why it is where it is, and that the more commercial products you’ve chased, the more you’ve run into the faceless catalogs, the useless websites. Hope this gives a bit of insight.

We sell premium grade only automatic gate openers to end users at direct wholesale pricing and fence/gate contractors. Our industry DESPERATELY needs installers who are this organized. Most of the wiring and mounting look like a dogs breakfast thrown up when you look into the control boxes. I bet you lose sleep over watching most trades do half ass work. How do you find good companies like the ones you deal with?

@jrackal2133
@jrackal2133 3 жыл бұрын
it is not RO. Looking at the spec sheet...the filter is a anti scale filter. I'm assuming this helps keep the unit from fouling up. So, it doesn't improve the quality of the water entering the HydroTap.

@@ObsessedGarage Sorry Matt, but Too Bad, for the Unit to work properly, it MUST be Under the tap. Mainly because the units Purge and empty the lines when idle, and refill them with product when there is a demand and they need gravity for that to work as well as other reasons. We have multiple of these in the kitchen area at our office (Yes im an Aussie), and they are ALL Under sink units. There is a noticable Delay of about 1s when you demand water, and the unit has to fill the lines. When you stop demanding, the lines are drained back into the unit. Also, Note that these units are 230v 50hz Rated as per standard Australian power. The manual does state that 60hz works fine, However you will need to be careful on how the grounding is setup. Here in Australia, we have 230v Single phase power, and the Neutral is usually referenced to earth. As for your American Split phase power, Before you plug that In, i'd be checking that the Neutral and Earth are not bonded. They shouldnt be AFAIK, but if they are, your unit would be "Live" at 120v on the chassis, so CHECK! Per the Manuals: Positioning It is important to ensure the under bench unit is positioned in an accessible area close to the floor level. The unit must have it’s base mounted in a horizontal position with all inlets and outlets facing up. The Tap must be located above the under bench unit. See section for details. NOTE1: This appliance is intended for use with the Zip HydroTap under sink unit. NOTE2: Water connections must be pointing vertically upwards. NOTE3: The booster unit should be installed as close as possible to the Zip HydroTap Unit as the 400mm connection hoses cannot be lengthened. "Note: The tube lengths are matched to the pumps performance and therefore CANNOT be lengthened" "Note:All silicon tubes must be cut to size. They must have a constant Fall back to the unit"
