I really need to stop watching your reviews as my basement is bursting @ the seams. My pocket...that's another story. Lol Great review and interesting rim tech. A definite departure from ZIPPs previous offerings.

Thanks Jom for your review! I changed my mind on the Zipp 101's and will go with a local custom wheel build for my bike instead (also a Canyon Grizl)..

It’s nice that they are making wider internal width rims, wow i28mm. I’m not going to mention brands but not long ago they where saying wide internal width like that would square off tires. My current rims are i26.6mm width and I have 700x38c GK’s that mount up really nicely,I’d love to get carbon and use 700x40c tires or larger

Great content on your channel as well in regard to SS MTB. It'd be nice to see some gravel bike stuff as well. Keep up your great video content as well.

@@paulkruglov7280 I’ll be getting a wide carbon set of Zipp rims or the Revive rimes from We Are One and lacing up to CK hubs soon

Another good review. It is hard to see the use case for these wheels over the 303s. The 303s are lighter, cheaper, and also could provide for aero benefits depending on tires. The XPLR are wider, but the 303s are plenty wide. I’m puzzled by what Zipp has done here.

As a structural engineer I can say that the single wall construction is structurally less efficient compared to a closed section resulting in the greater weight. On the plus side, the single wall is torsionally much more flexible compared to a hollow section resulting in a plusher ride as mentioned by JOM. The single wall construction should also result in a much better quality rim as it is easier to place the carbon sheets in the mould compared to a hollow section.

I know these wheels are pretty new but was wondering if anyone has any experience with the rims? I’m deciding between these and the We are One Revive rims. My wheel builder says that these Zipp carbon rims have been causing spokes to break. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi, been a fan of your video, I'm thinking of upgrading my wheelset, but shortlisting the Hunts 35 and this Zipp 101 xplr. I'm mostly on single track in my place. Which would you recommend

Kelvin, I have not ridden the Hunt 35 so I cannot offer an honest opinion. Sorry.

Yet Another useful review. Thank you. As I see the maturation and proliferation of carbon rims, do you think there’s still a place for alloy rims in a high(er) end wheel set like the 101’s reviewed here? Thanks again, and keep the no BS reviews coming. BTW, I REALLY appreciated your review of the Grizl with rock shox Rudy. I think I’m wanting one!

Stay away from this wheel. The tubeless setup really doesn’t work, if you’ve read reviews then you’ll see it’s a known issue. It’s caused by the way the nipples protrude into the rim bed. After trying about 10 different ways to get them setup I finally gave up. Note they didn’t seal the way they were taped from factory either. Zipp will not stand behind their product and I purchased them from Colorado Cyclist who will do nothing to right this. I’ve had to file a claim with PayPal and contact my credit card to go after getting a refund. I’ll never purchase anything from Zipp or Colorado cyclist again.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues, I hope you get them resolved. Tubeless worked just fine in the video on this wheelset, I demonstrated it on camera. I had no problems with air retention, but clearly, it may be a problem for some. One thing to try, and I've had to do this with the occasional review wheel. Add an additional layer of tape, that makes all the difference for getting the tyre to pop into the bead, and seal. Some wheels may even require three layers of tape. Good luck with everything.
