There's a tendency for Zippo fans to turn a blind eye to Zippo's flaws. Zippo is, and always was, an IMCO rip-off. They made some design changes from the 1928 IMCO 2000 model, all the design changes made the Zippo evaporate within a couple of weeks, whereas the IMCOs last up to a month. In my opinion, Zippo is not a lighter - it's a toy - only suitable to do tricks. IMCO is a lighter - designed to store fuel and light whatever you need to burn. The idea that Zippo is a "better" lighter is nonsense.

Zippo vs IMCO: a true test Buy a Zippo and an IMCO and see which costs more: IMCO is half the price of Zippo. Fill up Zippo and IMCO with lighter fluid and see which procedure takes longer: IMCO is quicker and easier. Insert flint and see which procedure takes longer: IMCO is quicker and easier. Clean each lighter and see which one will reliably light ten times in a row: IMCO works better. Test to see which lighter can be used to light in hard-to-reach places: IMCO works better. Test daily to see how many days each lighter stores fuel: IMCO lasts longer. Put dirt or grease on your hands and try to use each lighter. IMCO will work better. See which lighter is better for tricks: Zippo is better. Final test: see which lighter has a better warranty: Zippo is better. If all you want is a lighter to play with and do tricks so you can ruin the hinge and use the lifetime warranty, Zippo is better. If you want a lighter for everything else, IMCO is better.

Another point is that if you drop the Zippo it will dent or the lid will distort because of its weight, but the lighter IMCO won't.

Great review. Nice touch pointing on the cotton packing for survival. Very cool cigarette case. I still prefer my good old Zippo. Not to big a fan of Imco. They make good wicks for old petrol lighters.

Zippo is like a warm friend in your hand after use, the imco is crazy hot with nothing to cover the chimney.

You can actually adjust the flame of your zippo by moving the wick. Moving it towards the cam will raise the flame, and towards the wheel will lower the flame, in which I prefer a fairly small flame to preserve fuel and the wick. It might vary slightly depending on your zippo, but zippo flames can be raised and lowered very easily.

I appreciate the review. I'm not familiar with the Imco brand. Pretty new to lighter collecting. I'll have to look them up. For me... I like the weighty feel of my zippos. Let's me know I've got something in my hands. Have a great weekend.

The old red flints work fine for me pretty much all I ever use cause my grandpa had thousands of them that he let me have. Also never heard of a zippo not liking them.

They don’t really “don’t like them “ there just much dirtier than a zippo flint
