Bringing out the inner melodies at this fast pace is nothing less than a miracle.

This is really astounding playing-sharply characterized, full of color, perfectly controlled, and yet never fussy.

The polyphony is so beautiful. The development is considered and creates tremendous momentum which then also dissipates in different directions. Remarkable playing!

I prefer Lugansky; it's more Russian.

I heard him play this work live in Vienna a few months ago. It was a great recital, but in this particular Etude tableaux I prefer Zlata’s flexibility rather than the more ubiquitous weighty version of Lugansky’s; they are both obviously formidable interpreters of Rachmaninoff’s music… While saying hello to him after the concert Lugansky praised Zlata’s interpretation of the rarely played 1st sonata., which he also played brilliantly that evening. Cheers, FB

Hello, Wow, I wish I had heard your rendition earlier ! I love how you bring inner melodies here and there. So much contrast between the voices, so much clarity, it's so refreshing and it seems so easy (and god knows it's absolutely not) ! I have played this a long time ago, I loved it very much. My professor said to me several weeks after I started it that he knew it was a little too difficult for me and that he was glad of the result. I was too back then, but when I hear you, I'm ashamed ! I progressed a lot when I learned it, but I suppose I'd have to work at least ten times harder to play like you ! Very frustrating sometimes to have ideas to play and not having the technique to bring ideas to life ! I have decided these days to learn another Etude-Tableaux (I've already learned op.33 n°4, 5 - the snowstorm -, 6 and 8 -Grave, in C# minor) and it's even a bigger fish : the op.39 n°1. I don't know where I'll be able to go with it, it's really another level, but I love tochallenge myself from time to time. I see it kinda like an op.33 n°5 under steroïds (the 33/5 seemed easier to me than the 4th but the 39/1 is clearly not). I have a lot of pleasure learning it and the more I play it, the more I understand it and I know I'll progress a lot with it. And now that I'm speaking of it, I have an irrepressible need to go play it ! :D Thanks to you this time ! So thank you thank you thank you, a million times, for bringing joy and emotions with your enormous talent ! :) W.

Fantastic! Such clarity of texture in this difficult, stormy work. The rhythmic precision also brings out the forward driving character of the piece. Lovely, Madame Chochieva.

Just discovered this performance, in your hands this piece sounds even more beautiful. Love all the hidden melodies and harmonies that you brought to light, it gives so much depth and inner meaning to a piece of art often performed just as a show-off piece.

And there were moments of magic in her Rachmaninoff playing of the sonata- 2nd movement esp. -at the Wigmore Hall on 26March last year that moved me to tears..I was not there unfortunately, but heard it on KZbin. I hope she will play in London again!!

She playes it too fast, so misses so harmonical details that you can hear in other interpretation, listen to Lugansky or Richter

I understand your objection, but this rendition is feverish, haunting, in desperate search for light. After listening to it I find Lugansky boring, and i LOVE Lungansky! When she plays Rachmaninoff or Chopin a part of my soul is upset, I cannot explain. In my opinion her rendition of these two composers is astonishing, something far away from any other pianist.

@@corouniud7592 very well described! Lugansky is, as I hear it, very often boring and very well behaved, without this special nerve so charasteristic for miss Chochieva. Richter is so often just brutal, angry, without magic regarding timbres. Miss Chochieva´s palet is infinite in colours, so very satisfying in Rachmaninof.

Why are you comparing a hall recording to a studio recording? The acoustics alone can affect the quality of the harmonic details. She has a studio recording, if you're going to compare kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIayimWvndp4fbM

@@javascriptkiddie2718 wow you're right. Both recordings are like night and day. I really like the voicings and the sound of the recording in this video here...but the speed of the slower one in YOUR link. Some of the notes and voicings almost get lost slightly In her slower version one but then again maybe it's just my headphones. To hear her live would be amazing.
