I can't actually think of a better intro for a movie: the music, the gangs, the little snippets of dialogue, even the way the credits are presented are all totally cool as fuck and set up the film perfectly. Absolute classic

Soo true, also true of the film itself, feels like a 80's pop movie through a 70's gritty filter. Perfect stylistically, PFunk and Cheech & Chong pulled this off regularly between 77 and 82

Lived in coney island in the late 70's. back then, real Rough neighborhood Still bad today. The warriors logo painted on the building faclng the beach was there then. The building was a salt water bath house named Stauche's baths. My grandmother, long gone, would go there in the 30's and 40's. my mom too. I'm 74.

I had a college professor named H. Craig Collins at St. John's University in the early 1980's, WW II vet and retired NYPD. He was a sergeant in the NYPD and from 1970-1973 was head of the city's gang unit, reporting directly to the mayor of NY. He wrote a book about the gangs of that time period in NYC, especially the Bronx. They all wore vests - "colors"- to identify themselves. Pretty much non-existent by 1979, but what a cool flick this was.

I like how much the intro showing main 9 members of the Warriors kinda captures their characters that would be expanded upon later in the game. Cleon and Swan are the no-nonsense leaders, Ajax being the crass "one track mind" muscle, Rembrandt being the artist, Snow being as cool as his nickname gives, Cochise saying that Cyrus is "magic", Cowboy being very sensitive about his Stetson, Fox being the observant one and Vermin being the comic-relief.

Also at the end , swan needs to FINALLY give Mercy the vest . There other other things also but I don’t feel like typing them all . And Rembrandt could have been a better artist and they need to go through MANHATTAN and Times Square too . Peace

I am not sure that The Warriors provides the best example of different people co-existing, vibing and hanging. The gang culture was not only perpetually violent with groups defending turfs and fighting others, a lot of the gangs - as portrait in the movie - were formed based on ethnic identies. They were all in some ways very exclusive. Skin colour, nationalities, neighborhood (socio-economic background). @@xro1983

So my brother recommended this movie to me and he for me has always picked movies that I tend to enjoy. When I saw posters of this movie I thought it was silly. But when my brother recommended it to me I decided to give it a look. Within the first six minutes of this movie I realized that this was one of the best movies ever made with just six minutes of film. Still one of my favorite movies.

It never ceases to amaze me how the intro perfectly sets the story and introduces the characters without being obnoxious or intrusive. The combination of short dialogues and scenes gives all the info you need: what, who, why, where and when, without giving away any spoilers. A true film writing masterpiece!

Looking back on this movie one has to be impressed by the ambitious nature of this film. The costume designer alone is the real hero of this movie each gang had su h a distinct look the number of extras needed for the big meeting alone must have been a nightmare to pull off.

Great point and this is all pre-CGI,so they had to do everything for real. The sheer logistics of setting everything up couldn't have been fun. I don't know if they used any matte paintings in the movie, though.Matte paintings were used in a lot of movies prior to CGI and some movies even still use them today but they're usually digital matte paintings instead of the hand-painted ones of old.

But the way hollywood is these days i dont want them to destroy and disinterest me in the worlds these classic movies created. E.g (" Star wars") and everyother remake, remaster and sequel thats shat out these days just to profit off the original classic, great films that were made years ago

This movie is inspired by Xenophon's 'Anabasis' the true story of 10,000 Greek mercenary warriors who had to fight their way back through Persian controlled anatolia after their leader died they had to fight all sorts of tribes on their way back home to Greece and as soon as they saw their Coney Island (home) which were the Greek controlled coastal areas by the sea, the surviving Greek warriors cried out THALATTA! Which means sea in Greek. Even the names Ajax (Greek warrior)Cyrus ,(persian king) pay homage to the original events. Very cool stuff!
