Realistic campaign lol. The reason why the Dutch couldn't give up any land, was because it would reduce them to a puppet of France. The Southern Netherlands formed a buffer between the nations. In reality the Dutch had Michiel de Ruyter, one of the best Admirals ever, and good army commanders so you were a bit handicapped as well. And you even invaded England like William of Orange did in 1688

1:40 Bit of a correction. The English and French both wanted to reduce the power of the Republic and made a secret pact with each other to attack The Dutch Republic. It were the actions of the De Witt brothers (namely Johan) who diplomatically prevented earlier disasters, with namely the French. But therefore, they didn't put any focus into the army and well... this was the result. A switch in allies resulted in France, England and Münster surrounding and attacking the Netherlands on all fronts, including the ocean.

a great dutch movie about this is called "Michiel de Ruyter" or "Admiral" which follows the grand admiral de Ruyter in their naval conflict and also includes Het Rampjaar. It also represents the political struggle between the Statists and Orangists in the movie

Flooding the polders (the Yser river) also happened in WW1 to halt the German advance in West-Flanders (Belgium). Also, the Netherlands is pretty big on this map; historically the provinces of Bruges (Brugge) and Ghent (Gent) were still part of the Spanish Netherlands (well for a good 90% at least). As for a summary of how the war came to be: The general Dutch strategy up until that point had been "Gallicus amicus, sed non vicinus", which translates to "The Gaul/French as ally, but not as neighbour". This worked very well against the Spanish and England (England and the Netherlands were major rivals at sea for trade and such). However, Louis XIV, through a complicated matter of inheritance (the dude was a real warmonger), claimed the Spanish Low Countries. The Dutch feared the French would become their neighbour and thus potentially become a threat and allied with the Swedes and English. Louis XIV wasn't very happy with this (secret) alliance and since Louis XIII and Richelieu the French government/elite had become very eager to restore the borders of Gaul (meaning full natural borders), which meant going all the way north to the Rhine. The French managed to dissect the alliance through bribes (and the English also had other interests).

Good summery. Although the Alliance wasn't a secret. Certain articles were a secret. Articles that stated that the Triple Alliance would use force against France if it didn't retreat from most of the Southern Netherlands. The English leaked them instantly, because the whole purpose of this Alliance was to isolate the Dutch by breaking the Franco-Dutch Alliance

That's not how the garrison thingy works (thankfully). I havent done that for ages (as you can abuse it for rebels), but I believe that they either have to wipe you or win a battle within 13 days to leave the garrison as 0 (I would need to check it). Definitely at that timestamp, you would never get 0 garrison after such a case

Who told you I dont have any advisors? This is the first thing that was done, cant you see when discipline advisor was taken? Or computer has better ayes then you? No I didnt take all three powerpoints (only the one that matters in such scenario, so mil points) from estates as this was planned for 15-20 years scenario and reducing crownland to 0 did no sense on that strategy. I recommend sometimes thinking a bit more to decide how to play instead of braindead one way of gameplay, unless you are as bad as computer. There is a huge difference on estates setup in 1444 and a one-war or 20-years scenario. It's also useful before leaving a comment like this. Please do facts check before insulting someone

I think it is sad that starting in other startdates, Paradox did choose ideas, leaders, armies and so on for countries but not government reforms, crownland, privileges (maybe it shouldn't), absolutism and many other things which make it a lot less enjoyable to play compared to 1444.

I'd guess that's because at the time they set up the countries for every different month or year or idk the missing things were not parts of the game and when they were working on the patches intorducing these updates they had decided not to update every country every month again - maybe beacuse of the so low number of players starting at a random time.

its also a lot more eurocentric to the point were playing even an OP nation like the mughals becomes a challenge since you are 2 institutions and 6 techs behind as well as having way too many vassals above your diplo limit

I’d say its’s just historical, by the 18th century any European nation could easily take on an Asian great power with the same or even much bigger size of population and army, not to mention Sub-Saharan Africa or the natives - speaking about them conquistadors have collapsed Aztec and Inca with a few couple of hundreds men.

hey, sorry - it is at 22:21 - for english channel you dont have a merchant set and as far as i could see it you didnt to so later in the video. i always put there a merchant (thought this is needed) therefor iam confused :D@@ZlewikkTV

@@skipp2skipp So putting a merchant in the channel by itself has a minimal impact and it's often more worth to use it in another node. When it is 100% worth is is when you have a lot of merchants and a long trade route. In such a case, you get 10% trade pwoer for each merchant transfering power there. That bonus is not applied though if you collect in any other node. So like in 22:21 you can see I'm collecting in Coromandel and Moluccas, making it not relavant to use merchant in the English Channel :)
