not in all cases....zygomatic fractures(especially depressed zygomatic arch fractures) impinging on coronoid process will result in restricted mouth opening

Hello sir.. I had an accident sir I think my zygomatic bone is fracture ..I took xray. I still have a lot of swelling.. doctors say the bone is not broken and some say broken I am so confused.. Sir if we are going to wait for 6-7 days to palpate the malar prominence then are we not going to do anything to treat the fracture till then? The edema might even subside within 3-4 days

edema/swelling peaks within 3 days after injury ....it will not subside in 3 - 4 days...concept behind waiting for 6-7 days is we can exactly assess the asymmetry and reduction during surgery...we have to prescribe medications untill we take up the case for surgery.

@@msdentallectures7408 and how about the diet till we perform the surgery? Will the patient be able to hold the fractured maxilla or mandible the way it is till the time we treat it? Are we supposed to leave the fractured segment as it is?

@@saleelkurane4186we will advise liquid diet..if fractured segments are excessively mobile, we can provide temporary stabilisation with ligating wires...
