Awesome tv dx catch I too live in North Florida. I frequently hear Zed NS on am on 1540 kHz and 810 kHz but NEVER on FM or Analog Tv. Congratulations for such a rare catch. I’ve been to the Bahamas 3 times just love going there I’ve also done some local listening on their fm bands from a cruise ship

@eastest566 : I had to leave for work and unfortunately did not leave the VCR running...however this was part of 3 to 4 days of intense Caribbean Tropo (as was my WKAQ catch on my page). ZNS was in also the night (or 2 nights) before, poorer reception, along with FM out of Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico! And it hasn't been half as intense since then, 19.5 years ago!

Fantastic catch on Channel 13 in South Florida! Back in the analog days of TV, I would imagine ZNS-TV has its signal on a directional beam in order to protect WTVT in Tampa (their transmitter is in Riverview, southeast of Tampa) 250+ miles away. Same thing involving WTSP in St. Petersburg. Not only WTSP’s transmitter was in Holiday (a community in west Pasco county) but being on Channel 10 WTSP had to protect WPLG in Miami operating on the same Channel 10 250+ miles away as well. As for ZNS-AM on 1540 kHz it comes in loud and clear on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge near St. Petersburg, especially before 0600 when the Bahamian National Anthem (March On, Bahamaland) is played. A minute or so later, adjacent channel interference from WAMA 1550 kHz in Tampa makes ZNS-AM’s signal hard to pick up even though WAMA has to operate on low power until local sunrise.

Yeah I only caught this maybe 4 times in a span of 12+ years. ZNS 13 was always directional away from the USA, and I don’t think WTVT was an issue. There WAS a short-lived full power 13 in Key West (WETV), and I may have seen THAT only once.

Are you in Bahamas? Frankly I don't have exact info on ZNS 13 today here in USA. From what I understand, ZNS converted to digital. Either you will need an HD TV, or a box that converts NTSC video (old analog) to ATSC (the current TV standard; Bahamas uses ATSC just like USA does. A good outdoor antenna helps a lot---but if a hurricane approaches, it might have to be taken down. The same antenna will work for both NTSC & ATSC. If you live in Bahamas, I would suggest you contact www(dot)znsbahamas(dot)com. I am the former cd637299.

ZNS TV is digital now, maybe still using RF channel 13. It’s impossible for me to catch now, especially since WPEC “12” uses RF 13, too close to me.
