Tough decision. Getting the usual 2 or 87… this figure looks incredible! I am seeing many folks complain a tad too much about masterverse. I understand the passion, but I am just thankful. Not everyone was around in the 80s or have disposable income to get the classics. I am just grateful! Even Catra's challenges, I am all game.

Yeah the Zodac [Esoteric Factor] makes for an interesting/ intriguing character & plot mechanism. Like A 2pt Prologue or New beginning for Netflix REVELATIONS PT.2 vol.1. > Where they could use Zodac to introduce like Wun-dar &/or _The Lord's of the Sun_ planet (or Realm) & that mythos. Have He-man battling them. Than later they come to his aid. Via Zodac. Sounds like A smart move to me.

Teela and Zodac were my first two MOTU figures -- got them both for my birthday. He's always been a favorite. Despite the few odd design choices this one is at the top of my "must have list." I'm really digging all of the New Eternia figures so far and am hoping we get to see Teela and Evil-Lyn (once they're done with endless Revelations variants) in this line.

Michael here: Hey Brennan! In the official images they are stored handles down but the clips are too large for the staffs unfortunately. They are just too stretched out. If you store them handles down you see the nub where the two clip together too

Awesome early & detailed review. I like this Zodac actually. Normally he is kinda boring character in MOTU world, but I think Mattel has spiced him nicely in this NE subline. I am sure Zodak (With K) will be an easy repaint from this version. Masterverse is definitely improving a lot.

I believe I'll be displaying him without the shoulder pads. It looks like the pads probably hinder arm articulation due to the way they clip to the back. Are the clips pliable enough to maybe use heat to tighten them up to hold the staff better?

Gosh, I LOVED the Cherry red glossy paint as shown on Target . His armor is so flat and dull now. I think the design is awesome, but I wish they wouldn't take shortcut on paint apps.

I'm still surprised we didn't get Zodak first: he's a race swap (kind of) that was actually embraced by a majority of fans and they seem keen to get more PoC in the line. In my opinion, he also has a much cooler design with lots of detailing that matches the New Eternia vibe. There is a notable lack of 200x characters I Masterverse though, which is a bit sucky considering they are releasing toys from MotU, NAoH, Revelations, 3D and even PoP.

I think I’ll end up with three of this guy. One to be Zodac proper (without pads) and then two for enforcer grunts one with long staff and one with two batons (with shoulder pads but no holster) give some variety and move some stock along too.

Zodak looks amazing but I fully agree Michael that I'm not a huge fan of the character or its look. For some reason the Origins version seems to work better; might be scale or the more simplified look in that form factor. However any time they scale up or add more detail the limitations of the design become glaring. The only design that really seemed to know what to do with Zodak was 2000X

I think it's best to have the weapons stored on the back at the small part. As long as they stay in the clips it's good even if they slide around. This way you dont run the risk of breaking the clips

Man, I went from super stoked to being kinda disappointed with this one. My favorite incarnations are Filmation and 200x (I've got both MOC,) and the lack of paint detail and monster feet are really getting to me. Maybe it's because I'm moving soon and being way more critical and selective, just don't feel like I'm getting anything new, even with the changes. Maybe I just didn't like how the changes were implemented? Now if they make a 200x Zodak version with more white highlights and blue glow-in-the-dark tattoos... That being said, I love the card art, the in-package presentation, and the fact anyone who missed out on earlier versions can get a pretty sick, affordable Zodac!

New Eternia is great conceptually. But the execution may have been stronger if they focused on New Eternia design & do the "traditional" looks with other figures. Different display options are usually a plus, but it seems like for the New Eternia releases so far either one option or the other falls short. Beast Man is probably the most successful at two modes that work but even then there's the common thread that exemplifies the issue: the shorts and loincloth molded together. No matter how many other removal parts there are, it's not going to be a 100% traditional look. And at the same time, some of the distinctively New Eternia elements get the short end of the stick from an engineering standpoint so that the figure can have different looks. Not saying things "should" be done differently, or the designers "don't understand the brand" just something that doesn't land with me personally. & they're still Killing It with the Box Art, this is one where the art handily outshines the toy.
