If homage is properly paid to the original film and cast while creating an enjoyable viewing experience then you can bring classics to younger/new viewers. My example would be the 2005 movies King Kong and also Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, if those movies hadn’t been remade I would probably never have come to know and love the originals.

And this is coming from a massive lord of the rings fan but at the same time if you didn’t know Willy wonka with gene wilder before you knew Charlie with Jonny Depp is like saying most people would know the wizard of oz without that crap “oz. The great and powerful”. Which both are derived from literature from Rould Dahl and Frank Lee Baum respectively. And I’m not one to tell somebody their opinion is wrong. But yours is. And as far as streaming views, box office revenue and profits, and at home media sales, roughly 90% of remakes flop and lose over half their budget.

Hollywood is running out of ideas, so they are bashing all of the original classics and/or rebooting/remaking them to give themselves something to do. It pains me to see potentially good stories getting washed out by cgi, bad writing, no character development, politics, etc. Movies should be like books, where everyone knows the really good ones and respects them, but nobody rewrites or messes with them. They let them be. We learn from them, we enjoy them, we appreciate their existence.
