刺し子 物語 & Sashiko Story

刺し子 物語 & Sashiko Story

Жыл бұрын

In order to understand Sashiko, getting familiar with “Zokin (雑巾)” is pretty important. I use Zokins in our ordinary, and I introduce how I make it & use Zokin in this video.
Zokin isn’t really a fancy word. I hope non-Japanese understand what Zokin can be for Japanese people, instead of romanticizing the word. As much as I speak up for the violence of “Cultural Repainting” done by someone who tries to get benefit out with no (small) knowledge & experience, I think it is our responsibility to share the “alive” information.
Sashiko & Boro are words with stories, not just marketing terms in trend.
*I am trying to approach “video making” to upload more contents by “voicing over” the video I film. Not great editing, but I hope this will improve my video editing skill as well.
Please find the links for information I mentioned in the video.

I very much appreciate this type of video as well as your longer ones. It helps to have the Japanese words shown and explained like you did. It helps in the understanding of the changing use of the words. Thank you very much.

Thank you for the comment! Yes, I will do my best to keep making it. Live Streaming is much easier because I do not need to prepare - this takes 10x more time to prepare :D

My mother used to stitch in a similar way in order to upcyle old stockings into dish washing clothes. Thank you.

I am learning many helpful ways to re-purpose things, respect our limited resources here on earth, not thoughtlessly be wasteful, and you are helping me a lot with these ways. I respect you and thank you, brother. I ordered sashiko thread from your website, and can see I already hope to buy other colors. Many blessings to you.

So interesting! I think Sashiko stitching is so beautiful ! I would prefer to hand-stitch something that I planned to keep and enjoy. If I wanted to make strong rags, I think I'd use a sewing machine for them. I have some old 100% cotton bed sheets. Does anyone have an idea how to repurpose them?
