I can’t quite swallow that there are 112 people not liking this. The best live performance ever seen 😍

I actually love the setting for this performance. Yes, it would be a better match for the sound to be set in front of a dark space with a wall of dramatic lights, but I think the people randomly walking by on the street does something special by placing something magical and as powerful as this in the real, living world. You don't see many KEXP performances open for the public to be a present audience, and I think that says something about how there must have been some recognition that this music needs to be heard by those common folk who may have never come across Zola Jesus in their lifetime if not for that one afternoon where they found themselves strolling down the road on the way back home from work.

They are playing samples, aren't they? The only live stuff is voice and guitar, so yeah, it's both things, production (on the samples) and live eq.

She actually tried with her most pop-ish album Taiga - to record it she sing to Mute for one album. Unfortunately she didn't gain huge success comercially back then, and the critics weren't amused but in my opinion it was true turning point for her sonically and it was as neccessary for her development as any other album she recorded. Few years back when she toured my country with Okovi she also performed lead single from Taiga - Dangerous Days so it still must be important to her.

She grew up a couple hours from me In Wisconsin, USA. Musically the BEST thing to come out of Wisconsin by far- and one of the very best voices to come out of the USA imho.

Yeah I hated the name Zola Jesus and for some reason was under the impression that it was a psychedelic weirdo hippy thing like Devendra Banhart. Don't know where I got that idea but regardless, never thought twice about it til Okovi popped up in my band camp suggestion feed. Really really enjoyed it and was impressed with the singular sound she had going on. Then I saw she was based in Merrill, WI. The fuck? I went to high school 40 minutes north of there and then moved to Wausau (just a little ways south of Merrill) upon dropping out of high school so I likely knew or at least had seen this person around. She has a very distinctive face and I did indeed recognize her. Turns out she went to high school with my ex girlfriend in Wausau as well. Really strange experience to have something come full circle like that.

Damn, she is so talented. I was fortunate enough to see her perform at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, MA back when she released the string versions of a group of previous released songs. (2011 or so) It was in a beautiful and extremely intimate venue on the top floor of the ICA building in Boston's South Side Seaport, and overlooked Boston Harbor, night time, and she was back dropped by huge glass windows. She was fantastic, up and down the isles during the show, and of course she sounded incredible. A show I will never forget.
