The idea of zombies remembering everything from their past lives is actually pretty terrifying. If you ever bullied someone who turned into a zombie or you abandoned them to be eaten by the horde they can and will come after you.

I'm an average guy. I live in a decent town with a decent job, you know how it goes. I'm always focused on my work and what not, but I just couldn't help but smile when I was with my wife. Her name was Kathy. She was sweet, kind, and definitely a partner worth having, at least that's how it was for the first couple of years. As time went on...things changed. Me and her would constantly fight over the smallest of problems, whether it's who would cook dinner that night, who would clean around the house, we couldn't even agree on what side of the bed to take. I'll admit it, I said some pretty nasty things to her. I wouldn't call it verbal abuse, but she made it seem that way due to her always trying to play the victim and act as if I was hurting her; she was such a drama queen. Eventually, I had it. I couldn't take her constant complaining and annoyance; we divorced years later. She begged me to stay, but I knew it would be the best for both of us. Well, for me mostly. I thought that was the end, little did I know what was coming next. A deadly plague had taken over the Earth, injecting its victims, and making them turn into bloodthirsty braindead lunatics. Just a single bite from an infected host would cause it to spread. I guess you could call them zombies, because they pretty much compared to what you would see on a TV show or a horror movie. Anyways, I knew I had to evacuate my home, so I gathered my stuff and headed out. I was scared, nervous, just as anyone would be, but I kept my calm and convinced myself that it will be alright, even though it obviously wasn't. As I was running past the horde of zombies, I stopped for a short second, scanned the area and found Kathy, my ex wife, corned near a building, surrounded by hungry monsters. As soon as she saw me, she immediately called for help, pain and fear in her eyes. At that moment, well, I made the worst mistake of my entire life. I froze there paralyzed, not knowing what to do. I knew that if I jumped in there and tried to rescue her, we would both end up dead. A million thoughts raced through my head. There wasn't much time! So because of my selfishness...I left her. I dashed through the ruined city and down past the street that lead out of my hometown. I heard my wife screaming from behind, but I didn't care, I just kept running. Before I left, I took one last look behind me to see her watching in horror as the zombies were now mere inches from tearing apart her flesh. Then, I continued to flee, leaving everything and everyone I once knew, behind me. Fast forward to today, I am currently living in an uninhabited village. I have taught myself how to survive and live off of my resources. One day, I began to grow very hungry, so I decided to get my morning breakfast, taking my shotgun along the way knowing it would be the easiest thing to use when hunting. I walked miles and miles, with the shining sun burning on my skin as I soon became exhausted from all the heat. It was nothing but endless paved roads, and I was thinking of calling it a day and heading back. That is until I suddenly heard something. It sounded like a low hostile growl, and it seemed to be coming from above me. I glanced to my upper right to find a person staring back at me with glowing eyes. The person was crouched low on top of a building, and I could hear its breathing as it made its way closer and closer into my sight. I squinted, trying to get a clear view of what I was looking at. It was a woman, but, she wasn't human, she looked deformed. She had cuts and bites all over her and her eyes were dull red, showing no signs of life. As I examined even more, I realized this wasn't any woman, it was Kathy, my previous wife. The one who used to care for me and tell me that she loved me every night, the one who I had left behind to die during the apocalypse, as I ignored her screams of agony due to my selfish act. Yes, that's her. Now here she is staring directly at me, in her monstrous form that she had now become. She stood on her two legs, grinned widely and without hesitation, lunged at me from the building above. I only had so much time to react. I quickly dodged her attempt to pounce on me and starting racing forward as fast as I could. My heart was pumping, my adrenaline was racing, and there was only one word going through my head: RUN RUN RUN! GET OUT OF THERE! No way in hell could she catch up to me. I've come across zombies before and they were pretty damn slow. Well, to my surprise as I turned around, I saw her rushing towards me with a burst of speed, not even that far behind. Fuck. I looked around frantically, searching for any way to escape. To my luck, I saw an opening that lead out of the town that I was currently in. Yes! An escape way! I made a quick turn around with my undead wife barely grabbing onto me from behind. I sprinted faster than I ever had before, knowing this could be my only chance of survival. However, when I looked forward I saw no escape way, but a large wall blocking my exit. No, no, no! I turned around and was met with an unsettling view of what was once my lover, now walking towards me with her dangling wide mouth full of sharp teeth, and her glowing eyes full of rage. This can't be the end, it can't! That's when I remembered the shotgun I had brought with me earlier. I was originally going to use it for hunting, but I think it's pretty obvious for what's it's needed for now. Hesitantly, I brought the gun forward, her eyes widening in surprise as I pointed it directly at her. A loud bang echoed through my ears as she collapsed on the floor due to the impact. I stared at her as she laid lifelessly, trying to comprehend what I just done. Did I kill her? Is she really dead? Is this really the end? As I continued watching I soon noticed her fingers began to twitch. A look of shock came upon my face, as the being who I had murdered not even a minute ago had rosen back up from where she once laid. That's when it hit me. The one rule I had forgotten to always follow during a zombie apocalypse: always aim for the head. I lifted my gun, this time aiming for the head, and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. I tried shooting again, still nothing. I shook my gun repeatedly only to horrifically discover that I was out of ammo. I glanced up at my undead lady love who was now maniacally laughing. She rose her arms up, opened her mouth, and made her way towards me. It's over, it's all over. For a split second, things went silent, and I just was standing there, awaiting my death. But that's when she stopped, and stroked her hand across my face while giving me an innocent look, it was the same thing she would do to me back when we were married. With that, she whispered softly in a dark yet seductive voice, "It's not like I want to have a taste..." Then violently lunged at me and forcefully pushed me to the floor, hitting my head in the process. She then began to mutilate my insides ripping my intestines open one by one, in front of my very eyes. I felt powerless as I laid back and watched her tear me to shreds. My life was soon beginning to fade away, and the last thoughts that came through my head were "I shouldn't have left her...I really shouldn't have left her." Then everything went black.
