Next time have them fight in a building again? :) Also, perhaps when characters die, they could send in air support in their color to either shoot Zombies or drop equipment, so dead colors will still reoccur in some was and will live on as weapons help by the survivors 😊

How about adding temporary boosts? How will the boosts drop out? From boxes that are dropped by plane from the sky(30% chance to find boost), from which, btw weapons fall out. I'll start with the main thing: A bulletproof vest(or it will be a swat helmet with a faceshield covering the face) reduces all damage by 20% for 15 seconds. Hazmat suit: It is impossible to pour green slime, which slows down the character. Valid for 15 seconds.
