Isaac from TWIQH here. Thanks for the review dude and super glad to hear you enjoyed Zon!

Still my favourite release of 2023 so far, the vocals really are jarring at first as you say, but after the third listen or so I started to appreciate the technicality and skill to be able to segue from style to style like that and not miss a beat. Superb stuff that rewards you so much for diving deep!

The main negative for me was the lack of tonal variety - it was a bit too homogeneic for too long. Having said that, though, I read a post from one of the members on r/progmetal saying this album and the first album are part of a concept series (ala the acts by TDH) and that Zon is intentionally unrelenting and monochromatic because that's where we are in the story arc. I'm often guilty of not following lyrics/story and focusing solely on the music, so this context really helped me reframe the album. Now it's my go to for when I just want unrelenting chaos and crunch.

I've been puzzling over this one for a while. It has been steadily getting better for me, but still, part of me has to question if it's a bit TOO relentlessly chaotic, particularly the sequence from mid-Unity of the Lake through Writhing Gate. A test an album has to pass for me is "does this make sense without staring at the tracklist the whole time", and the back half of this album reeeeeally tests the patience on that end. Still...I've been enjoying it more every time I listen.

Definitely aoty for me and I don't think anyone will beat that. It's actually one of the best releases of the past 10 years for me. Highly recommended.

I've listened to this one twice now. I usually enjoy albums that play seamlessly, but this one was tough to get through. I can't tell where most of the songs start and stop, and with music this relentless and chaotic, it's tough to get through when it just feels so neverending. Hopefully it'll click for me, I should love this album on paper, but as of right now, it's too overwhelming.

Been listening and loving these guys since they released Prologue in 2018 (which you should ABSOLUTELY listen to. Tyler’s still a very unique vocalist and brings a totally different vibe from Lou.) This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year and it didn’t disappoint at all. Lou’s insane variety of vocal styles brings so much emotion to his performance. He makes this album and is what truly sets TWIQH apart from their contemporaries. Isaac is also one of the best guitarists in the game right now too. Heliacal Vessels is the song of the year. 9/10
