The requirement for a check valve to be included as part of the connection to the sprinkler system is to permit the standpipe riser to be drained and refilled in a limited amount of time should repair be necessary to any portion of the standpipe riser, fire department hose valves, pipe, and fittings, etc.

The check valve arrangements in ZCV assembly permit the standpipe system to be drained while allowing the sprinkler pipe to remain water filled. In general, the check valve between the two systems maintains the water volume supplied within the sprinkler piping, thereby limiting the drain and refill time of the overall combination standpipe/sprinkler system. In addition, when combination risers are cross connected (loop or dual feed), the check valves will limit the flow to the appropriate floor where sprinklers have activated and limit circulation of water throughout multiple levels of the building.

Standpipe system's hose connections, hose cabinets or hose compartments are required in landings of staircase and exit or entry doors therefore mostly riser pipes are installed on the staircase side. You can install a riser pipe in the middle of the building but pipes connection may be difficult/

Single zone means one zone therefore no need ZCV assembly and only required Alarm check valve assembly which will fulfill the NFPA requirements

Because if sprinkler glass break then when have to replace sprinkler after drain pipelines. Moreover, if you drain valve without sprinkler glass break then ACV activate in pump room and FACP panel inform about zone activation

As per std 8.2.1 on NFPA 13 it indicates an area of 3720m^2 per control valve, this works out to be 400 sprinklers per control valve

W.salam, No need NRV in ZCVA because NRV is installed in Pump room. In firefighting standard used supervisory valve because this valve give ON/OFF status on FACP & also physically status, while gate valve does not provide this information.

If 8 bar = 116 psi pressure of pump then water move up side to floor then gradually pressure decrease in height therefore I also suggest to no need PRV with ZCV (standard recommend working pressure 50 to 75psi but should be under pressure of sprinklers design) if our sprinklers design pressure is 150 to 175psi then no need to install PRV with ZCV

Riser means standpipe: this pipe is installed vertically for water flow upward to building, while hydrant are installed outside of building at ground floor (Note: no hydrants are installed inside of building, these are called landing valve or standpipe hose connection with or without cabinet and hose reel)

If header is 4" means your system is not combine system. In hydrant system, minimum main pipe should be 6" diameter as per standard requirements.

As per NFPA 13:2019, 4.5.1 The maximum floor area on any one floor to be protected by sprinklers supplied by anyone sprinkler system riser or combined system riser shall be as follows: (1) Light hazard - 52,000 ft2 (4830 m2) (2) Ordinary hazard - 52,000 ft2 (4830 m2). Therefore on any one floor, you can install one Zone Control Valve Assembly and sprinklers quantity to be calculated according to hazard recommended area.
