This documentary tells the fascinating story of Special Economic Zones: geographically demarcated areas of countries where different rules and regulations apply. There are more than 7,000 of these across the world, and they have helped shape the development path of countries as diverse as Ireland, China, and the UAE. This documentary explores how they originated, how some of the leading modern zones function, and what the future of these zones could be.

That's Brexit- a coup to build multiple Freeport/SEZ without the (informed) consent of British people. In effect it is neocolonialism in process. Teesside, Solent etc

Great work! Well documented and explained. SEZ should be created not only in developing countries but also in free and democratic developed countries, like the U.K.. The benefits are obvious and long lasting. If successfully implemented, it can be replicated in different parts of the country. SEZ is forwarding looking, innovative, entrepreneurial, trend setting bringing about high growth and new economic directions. For a new SEZ to be created nowadays, there are other elements which should be embraced like lifestyle, sustainability, community, neighborhood and fostering of younger generations etc.

This isn't really a documentary, but more of an infommercial. As someone who was born in Dubai and whose family was there since the 80s...this completely glosses over most of the story. Most of Dubai was built on slave labour. Many millions of migrant labourers from poor countries were lied to, brought to Dubai on false pretenses, forced to work in inhumane conditions, abused, and much worse. The companies conducting this were not punished because the economic value was more important than human rights. Dubai did go bankrupt. It was bailed out by Abu Dhabi. That's why the Burj Dubai was renamed the Burj Khalifa after Sheikh Khalifa of Abu Dhabi. While Dubai has attracted a lot of entrepreneurship, it has also attracted a disproportionate amount of criminal syndicates. It's a safe haven for global organized crime networks who are protected by the government. Ofcourse, corruption and crime are nothing unique, and I don't fault Dubai for doing what made the mose sense for them. I just hope people see it as it really is rather than this rose tinted illusion they pay PR firms millions to portray.
