@millana62927 жыл бұрын
That guy that wishes to keep Lucy needs to get rid of his obsession with her. Without meaning to sound crass, if Lucy dies on the way to the sanctuary than you have put her out of the misery that you have subjected her to for all these years. Lucy goes, either way it is a win, win. This man should be ashamed of himself, selfish beyond description. It is beyond despicable to keep such a large animal in isolation and engaged. My suggestion is to move Lucy out of her cage and put her keeper in it. Se how he feels about being locked up. It is like jailing animals who have committed no crime, never mind jailing them, throwing them into isolation for life. Extremely inhumane.

That these idiots in Edmonton do not understand that means they have no idea as to the needs of these beautiful beings. So abuse is ok so long as the victim is used to it and has been abused for years to the point that it's become their "normal"? That's what I'm hearing from that crazed man. Look, I get that this is different than child abuse but as someone who survived it this is exactly the kind of circular thinking and apathy that plays a huge part in perpetuating the cycle of abuse and often makes it hard for the victim to even realize that they are in an abusive situation. I feel very sorry for that elephant, it's probably extremely depressed, bored and lonely. She needs to be around other elephants, isolation is extremely unhealthy. As much as I love my dog and get immense joy from spending time with him he isn't a replacement for all human interaction, I still need other humans in my life, just like Lucy needs other elephants in her life. Forcing a social animal into isolation from its own species is literally torture.

And no, it's not because people went there and said it was nice; it's because it's a beautiful, expansive area that replicates their home environment, allows them to socialize with other elephants, and gives them freedom to roam great distances on varied, natural terrain, as nature intended. Not all Zoos are bad a lot of zoo have the space for Elephants and do what is best for them but some zoo should not have them. It needs to be a zoo by zoo bases. Some animals are only found in zoos and can never be returned to the wild.
@cacatr44952 жыл бұрын
Sanctuaries are not about returning to the Wild. No zoo can offer an elephant what they have in natural conditions at a sanctuary. Concrete does vast damage to an elephant's feet, all hard surfaces do, like hard-packed Earth, and asphalt, and is the most common cause of elephant death in captivity. ONLY two out of a 100 zoo elephants live to age 50, ONLY 2, whereas elephants in natural environments can live beyond 70. The chief implement of elephant handling at zoos is called a Bullhook, a sharp steel pointed hook with a long handle that is used to induce pain, it's used for abuse. You would not say what you have, if you knew about Bullhooks. Every captive elephant (including at zoos) has been forced through Phajaan/Crush/Torture Training that kills up to half of all elephant calves. You would not say what you have if you knew about Phajaan/Crush/Torture Training. When there's a suggestion that some zoos are fine for elephants, that means the speaker doesn't know the needs of elephants, and they don't know that zoos can't meet those needs. Elephants are migrators that need to walk many miles a day. They need freedom and roaming and their herd-life, a warm climate and a huge swath of land to roam, water to swim in, mud to cover themselves in, and loose soil to dust themselves in. They need quiet, peace, respect and safety. Captivity is death to elephants. Please learn more; I invite you to make use of my 3 elephant playlists, Elephant Nature Park (Thailand), Retire Lucy (EVZ), and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Ele Nursery (Kenya).

A person/people can be completely sincere, and completely mistaken. Attachment is a powerful thing, but refusing what is right and good, to remain attached to something not of Nature, is very damaging, damaging to soul, damaging to mind, damaging to the body, and bottom-line, destructive to Life. There are people that are so fearful of losing what they think they have, when what they "have" is a mirage. They don't actually have what they think they have, and yet, they won't look at Reality. That is a parallel to this: Lucy doesn't have what is of Nature for her. She has a very poor, harmful substitute that is very damaging. The people that claim she has what she needs, are looking at a mirage. Either they are knowledgeable and complicit with their words, or they are completely mistaken. 12:33 What's the difference, mentally, between that and a dungeon? In Creation, in the Wilds, do we ever find elephants in habitats like that? No, we don't. There is no Life in unnatural environments, there is no hope in them. People need to get honest.

This is incredibly strong proof that 'Dr. Milton Ness" has NO IDEA what he's talking about. I support a sweet girl at DSWT in Ithumba, Kenya and follow her progress so am proud to say we all know more about ellies than he does.

As a child I asked where do the animals go when they go home.? Wrong answer They never go home they stay with the Zoo.! I never went back to Zoo’s again. Every animal in Zoo’s needs to go back to where they came from.! You can not own a wolf & elephants need each other not humans.!

I was at a shockingly cruel zoo around the turn of the century (great apes and lions in actual BAR CAGES!!!) My best friend and I were in our twenties. I lamented the small shacks that the animals would be locked inside of over the cold winter. With complete seriousness, she reassured me that the animals were sent to a separate "winter zoo." !!! This was a grown woman with a high IQ! The level of her emotional disconnect was staggering.

@@JD-nd1oz Hello JD. They need to choose ethical professions that don't exploit animals. They have seen these elephants as cash cows, commodities. The eyes of their hearts are bad, corrupted.

That's a good story. Thank you, the Fifth Estate. An elephant in Alaska? That sounds so inhumane.

Wish they would put this much passion into caring for children who are trafficked and abused!

When parents care, we can talk. I've never known a parent that didn't abuse their children, by altering them, by lying to them, by betraying them with lies.

What a wonderful man Mr. Barker is. A true philanthropist. Lucy may be loved in Toronto, but to me those people are cruel. It’s all about money and greed. Give her the natural life she deserves and have a conscience. These are herd animals. How would you like to spend very day in the same surroundings with say a bunch of kangaroos and none of your own kind? As a race we have a lot to learn. If you can be anything..be kind.

How about put this "elephants lovers" into a cage and ship them to the antarctic. I'm sure they'll love it. And yeah make sure you bring their treadmill with them.

If Milton Ness had any true compassion for Lucy he would NOT have wanted to keep her in a climate NOT suitable for her & w/out others of her kind to share her days with. They chose Jim Strice(?) because he could be bought to say what they wanted said = as simple as that. It is so patently evident that Ness is lying through his teeth. GRRRRRR!

The Toronto Zoo. Notice the chains around the left front & right back foot? What's up with that? Bull hooks? OUTLAW THEM! These poor babies. Arthritis? Why not try adequine/ediquine? Horses & dogs & my dog carried in on a "bed board" & next morning, laughing, smiling, hopping, running, jumping full of joy!
@cacatr44952 жыл бұрын
Chains and bullhooks are abuse and are not acceptable. Elephants need soft soil, as by natural weather patterns were found in the Tropics, and sand beds. Her issues come from captivity. Solve that single cause, and an ele can heal. Lucy needs to go to sanctuary.
