I have the same car and model as you, 2023 2.5T Sport Prestige, and same reasons on why I chose that over the 3.5T instead. Slightly better mileage, and save more money than just a 75 more Horsepower powertrain. I've only put in 5k mileages on it, it's not much as of now. But I did picked up some stuff I noticed and I wish Genesis could improve down the line. The fingerprint reader is a waste of space in my in opinion. It should be on the gearbox or completely remove because I barely use it, the keyfob already detects the car once I'm inside and there's no need to turn it on with a fingerprint reader. The powertrain should be slightly more than just a standard 300 horsepower, and 3.5T models gets 375 horsepower, which is not a big improvement either, unless you go EV version. But that's just adding another $20k on the retail price. Still underwhelming in terms of horsepower. I do wish there are rear heated/ventilated seats in the back row seats. I have a relative who drives a 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid and he has ventilated/heated back seats (2017 Kia VS 2023 Genesis), come on Genesis, why skip out on that feature for luxury drivers? The one time where I was annoyed of my car was when I was reversing out from a shopping mall garage and the breaks auto-locked itself and the sensors were beeping & warning of a pedestrian crossing by behind me, but there were no one onsite besides other parked cars. I switched the gear back to drive, and then back to reverse and my breaks was still locked and warning sounds going off of a pedestrian. I had to turn off the car, and back on and it went away, which I thought that was really strange. I couldn't duplicate the issue after that, and wasn't sure if the sensors are properly calibrated? Aside from the car, the Genesis brand needs to disassociate itself from Hyundai. I've had one guy who liked my car, but until he approached and followed up with a snub comment, "But it's a Hyundai". Hyundai's do have bad reputation compared to Toyota/Lexus. On the other hand, I've had a lot of people who complimented my car and thought it was a Bentley. Also, I've had others approach up to my car from the parking just to take a closer look at it. Some people still never heard of Genesis either, just like how there are not much Lincoln brands or cars on the road. You definitely get heads turning when they see a Genesis.

Such a great comment. I’ll probably miss to address each and every topic. The brand recognition aspect of it is very important. People who have a negative perception of Kia/Hyundai are probably some that never had a car from these brands and think they are what they were before ‘08ish? The brand has come a long way. And sure, it’s not perfect. But what brand is? We would all be driving around in Toyota/Lexus… great vehicles but can I try something else, different design language, different implementation of tech? I honestly don’t care if people aren’t impressed by our GV70; who am I going to impress, the valet driver? Like I say in the video, I’ve had many other premium brands and maybe among the main reasons why I went with our GV70 is because it’s not a BMW or Audi, or Lexus but it’s still premium while remaining sort of anonymous? Very interesting design, super interior vs the competition. And you’re right about the rear seats not having the option to be ventilated vs a 2017 Optima, the only thing I can think of is that when that car was conceived the stand alone Genesis brand wasn’t out, was it? 🤷🏻♂️ and I’ve noticed other brands dropping the ball in similar fashion… unexplainable Let me pin your great comment…
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
Horsepower: I don’t have an issue with it. It’s within the competition. I don’t know much about engines but seems like 300ish HP/ 350-400 lb-ft of torque is what engineers are able to pull out of a 4 cylinder engine that uses 2.0-2.5 liter. I do agree with you that the 3.5 doesn’t offer much more to justify its existence. Granted, I haven’t driven it therefore I don’t know if there’s a perceivable difference between the two. I think without going with a version that competes with the AMG’s, M’s, etc, the 3.5 makes little sense. I find the drivetrain pretty adequate. I hardly ever push its limits. Being RWD bias, I can tell you that it makes very good use of its power vs any FWD based crossover even with AWD in the case of SH-AWD and or Quattro. It keeps the power to the ground to where to me, there’s not even a thought. My preferences land more in naturally aspirated vs turbo. I’m more old school and would love the 3.5 to be NA for just plain smoothness. Turbos are coarse, unrefined, but they’re here to stay 🤷🏻♂️ I do feel like EVs have pushed up the expectations in HP and torque way up to where we feel like anything in the 300 feels underpowered. My Model Y Performance was so outlandishly quick off the line it was ridiculous… it never got old.
@TimSmith-db1iu6 ай бұрын
A few things here. I agree with you about the fingerprint reader. Genesis is not a part of Hyundai anymore, look it up. They separated about 9 years ago. While they still use their financing and distribution and some parts, they are operating by themselves. It will take a while for this to become common knowledge. Also, did you say that the Electric version has underwhelming horsepower, or were you referring to 2.5 and 3.5?. 485 hp and 0-60 in 3.7 seconds is pretty wild to me. Lastly, my Prestige has heated, but not cooling rear seats. It does have a massaging driver seat. It's pretty awesome.

I previously had a G70 for almost 4 years and it had zero issues at 65k miles. I have noticed that my door lock sensor sometimes doesn’t work after I wash my GV70, after I drive it, it’s fine. 18 months 2023 GV70 2.5T advance owner .. Cardiff green / vanilla color .. 12K at 18 months . No issues .. I didn’t want the 21” rims due to the things you highlighted . I had issues with fingerprint ending up with a replacement head unit under warranty and no longer use that feature ! .. Otherwise no issues at all.. Interested your service interval was 5k .. it’s 8k in the handbook and Genesis in Las Vegas won’t service it any earlier .. Concierge service worked perfectly for me although I phoned for an appointment . Post 2023 models several key features were dropped from the advance model likely would have forced me to the prestige or another brand .. I do love the interested looks and comments still from many people who have never seen a baby Bentley lol😂.. love this car and hope it remains reliable as I want it to be a keeper
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
Where to start with the service intervals… 🤣 I don’t know where I got the idea of it needing its first service at 5k. Looking at the manual it does say 8k. But it also says that it depends on the pattern of use which is even more confusing because, number 1, I called in to schedule it and they took it. 2, when I was at about 8k, the car gave me a notification that it needed service so I assumed that it was in advance for the 10k that I pulled out of thin air. So, when they did the 5k the car wasn’t reset and it has no real way of knowing if it has fresh oil therefore still defaulted to the 8k and again, they took it and performed the maintenance, so I’m lost 🤷🏻♂️

Being in the shop that frequent for a fix thst is simply bring in s new part just to have it break down again shortly after is mind blowing. Anyone go through this yet? Its all over Reddit..
@JuanCarlosLTO2 ай бұрын
I haven’t had any differential issues. I am/was aware of the issue and still went with it. I believe that sometimes negative issues tend to be disproportionately mentioned in forums, etc. not to say they’re not true; I’m just saying that there has got to be an intrinsic bias in reporting negatives vs positives in any experience. It certainly didn’t dissuade me from buying one but would definitely understand if it did push away others. When I bought it, I intended to keep it past initial warranty but now I’m not so sure; modern vehicles are so over complicated and I wouldn’t like to be caught with a faulty digital display that as reported here by some viewers, is a $12k repair… imagine out of warranty? 😳 As far as out of schedule visits to the dealership: that number still stands at zero which is good.
@lornestein7248Ай бұрын
Please read the Genesis Fan Forum that discuss this issue in detail. They believe it's Hyundai's rear-diff fluid that is the problem. There are other higher quality aftermarket fluids (ie.. Amsoil) and Diff additives that can fix this issue but Genesis is adamant to only use Hyundai's fluid under warranty. So they change the rear-diff under warranty then proceed to use the same crappy fluid again & again.

@@jamesham3635 oh, it seems that, the intervals are based on the driving pattern. My wife drives it like 3 miles a day to and from work so I’m guessing that shortens the intervals. I have a 2023 Genesis GV70 2.5T, bought Jan 2023. I enjoy the maneuverability of this car and already put 19000 miles and no issues so far . Regarding mileage , as you said on an average I get 22-23 mpg with normal unleaded ( not premiuem fuel). But I observed that I am getting 26.6 mpg , during my last trip from Florida to NY. But it varied with filling in different gas stations . On an average I got 25 mpg . Like you said, seats are firm and that’s the only issue I have with this SUV. Thanks for making this video ( owners videos) gives more insight to the pros and cons of a car
@JuanCarlosLTO5 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, the seats are my main peeve. I’ve had similar experiences with the over bolstering of the BMW M Sport package but at least Genesis gives you a very soft suspension unlike BMW that it’s really bumpy even on the highway. I just drove a pristine 2003 Lexus GS300 and the seats are super comfortable but at the same time supportive along with a very soft suspension for a superb ride. I really don’t know where we went wrong with suspensions and seats that are hard for an expected “sporty ride” in people movers. These are not track vehicles, give me a comfy ride for the open road and imperfect roads. Ok, I’m done with my rant 🤣 So Florida to NY? Nice! I love long trips.

I showed it to the dealership, but they couldn't duplicate it. They did a re-set of the software, which seems to have solved the issue. I'm also experiencing some rattling noises that seem to be coming out of the engine/drivetrain, but only when the engine is idling. @pardhuguntur5189 This is what I said about it on my original review about this vehicle. I still agree with what I said. But I still love the choice we made with this GV70 over the competition. “The Lexicon sound system does the job, it is good, but I find the Mark Levinson from Lexus, BMW’s Harman Kardon and even Tesla’s stock sound system better than this one. In my opinion, it is missing speakers on the A pillars or high up and closer to the occupants’ ears.”

@JuanCarlosLTO Thank you for your response, I am getting 2.5t sport prestige, and does it require putting premium gas. Watching your videos on this car, great videos, and informative.

@pardhuguntur5189 about premium gas it says “recommended” so I take that as not required. I still started putting premium gas a couple of months ago and I’m not sure I know why 🤷🏻♂️🤣

There is a reason why Toyota products retail such high resale value. Those cars are known to go 300-400K miles with no issues 10K miles is nothing to gauge a car reliability on. That is like what 3 oil changes...lol

Thanks for review. Helpful as am considering one at this time. On warranty, if you opt to keep, contact dealership and get a quote on an extended warranty with a zero deductible. Should be around 3k give or take.
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
Honestly, I haven’t heard great things about aftermarket extended warranties. I don’t know how long I will keep ours but I guess I’ll look into it when the time comes. I have heard of some manufacturers doing “certified” inspections to see if the car would be a CPO and then sell you the contract and you keep the car with peace of mind; maybe that’s what you’re referring to; Porsche does it.

@@JuanCarlosLTO I have a 2019 G70. Just got quoted for that price to extend to 72/mth 100k miles. It’s through Genesis. I agree that aftermarket warranties should probably be avoided. We also have a 2017 Santa Fe with the extended Hyundai warranty. We had ac issues right after the 5/60 warranty expired. Since we had the extended it cost $0 to fix. Would have been around $2k w/o it. Overall we’ve had about $6k worth of warranty repairs for zero cost. It’s been worth it for us.

Hi Carlos, I am looking to purchase a GV70 or GV80. I have a feeling you were in my position at some point. Were there any reasons that made you sway toward the GV70? Right now I'm swaying toward the GV80.
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
@@MikechadChang the GV80 was never an option for us because we have no use for a 3rd row SUV. Having said that, I sat in one at the dealership and those captain chairs are so nice! The surface treatment of the interior etc makes it a very upscale, premium vehicle but that version is also out of our price range. It all depends on what you need and how much you’re willing to spend. This was a stretch with out initial budget but well worth it in my opinion because we continue to love it after 11k miles. In a couple of weeks I’m driving from San Diego to Vegas, to Texas and back to San Diego all in 5 days and it will be in our GV70 which is just perfect for our needs. The looks and the interior just don’t get old.

I traded mine after 2K miles. The seats are too firm… flares up my sciatica. It’s a great car! If one is interested, please please do a lengthy test drive. I lost a lot of money with this. Went back to Lexus. Btw, the car depreciation is sooo bad. . Being a new brand I guess.
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
Oh wow, that was short lived! I totally understand what you mean. That’s why I bring it up so much in my videos. A test drive can’t tell the whole story. I wonder what’s the point with the firmness of the seats. I had a similar experience with the M-Sport seats on my 3 series; which was worse than this one because they were just as firm but even more bolstered along with a firmer suspension. You couldn’t literally never coast on the highway, the ride was so busy you couldn’t relax. This suspension is more forgiving which helps. Genesis depreciation makes it a great find in the used car market. Before the pandemic you could get great deals on pre owned Genesis all day. Yeah, you can’t go wrong with Lexus. They hold their value really well as well, especially when you hold on to it for a few years.

Wow got mine February of 23 and still haven't meet 10000 miles as yet.
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
That’s pretty low mileage. Is it a second vehicle? I do drive too much. That’s 10,000 on this one but I’ve put many miles on my other 2 vehicles. I put about 40 miles a day for work and the rest is just weekend stuff, etc. But the GV70 is my wife’s daily driver but she drives about 4 miles a day for work.
@topandrun1266 ай бұрын
@JuanCarlosLTO yes it is my second vehicle but since I got the gv70 my wife started to use our first vehicle as her daily vehicle. I don't normally drive the gv70 often mostly weekend and long trips. I work in the city so I refuse to paying parking and refuse to park my new vehicle at the subway station lol. Honestly I love the vehicle and hoping not to have any problem with it cause I buy to keep it.

is it even in the same ballpark as a crv?..i mean really, i think anyone would worry about electrical and a lot more going crazy in any new car, now a days most of them are loaded with tec,, the question really is do they have a 100k warranty to give u a little piece of mind ?
@JuanCarlosLTO6 ай бұрын
Price wise there’s a 5k difference between the fully loaded Touring CRV and the very base model of the GV70. MSRP to MSRP. Which one has more wiggle room for negotiation? I’d say the Genesis. As far as what’s better than what it’s complicated. I’d say that in general, people trust Honda more than they’d trust just about anything else besides Toyota. But, Honda’s hybrid systems (which the touring is) isn’t as reliable as Honda would like it to be, at least historically. I don’t know if this last application is better. Time will tell. The 100k mile warranty from Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is a very strong selling point. Not to mention that the bumper to bumper warranty is longer than Honda’s as well.

Yeah man, I pay close attention to MPG in all the cars I’ve owned. I can tell you that my Audi A4 constantly beat the claimed MPG; especially on the highway. A Nissan Maxima and a Nissan Juke they both underperformed in MPG, badly. And on an on. This Genesis is usually really BAD when it’s all city. I think I say it in this video, like 14 MPG… my wife can go weeks without getting on the highway and this thing does poorly in city; highway and depending on how I drive it can meet and/or beat posted MPG. 🤷🏻♂️
