Quick review of the Zoom F1 Field Recorder. With a tie mic, it's clearly designed as a personal audio recorder, but is it good enough for professional use?

Huzzah, huzzah, or here in Kansas wee hooo! Excellent presentation on a subject this old (late-entry)Septuagenarian approaching "Octa..." with 'developing-short-attention-span' (my definition)...you just became my go-to guy for concise, listenable information! Thank you and thank you!

I like those Rodelink wirelesses too - although my soundie friends sneer at them. Usually while they’re cursing at their Sennheiser G4s, trying to find a quiet, stable channel.... When on location with my favourite soundie, he insists on using his G4s, but we use one of my Rodelinks to squirt a sub-out mix from his mixer (a Zoom F8) back to my camera. This works really well: were not tethered together, but if everything’s working as it should, the editor has nice, mixed-down sound straight out of the camera. If not, he can sync with the sound from the Zoom F8, where each mic is recorded separately. If I have headphones on, and plugged into my camera, the soundie can even communicate discreetly with me by murmuring into the slate mic on his F8 between takes - it comes through on the Rodelink. It makes him look a bit mad, but then... you know.... he’s a soundie.

What a great idea!... We now need one going the other way, so at least the soundie can get your coffee order right !!! It amuses me how often the sound deptartment turn their noses up at those Rodelink's... I like them because they just work... when you're up against it, it's a real help!

I've been pleased with the F1...records very clean audio. Planning to use a wireless mic with it soon to allow backup audio/operator monitoring when using little cameras with lesser audio capabilities.

Backup to wireless...that's a good idea...

Well done review, please keep them coming. I like the lighting in your office, what camera did you use?

Thanks for the comment Dave, it means a lot... I'm a big fan of your channel. All shot on my GH5 with speed booster and 24-105mm f/4.

Looks like a cheeky green screen to me. Either that or those shelves and macbook have been composited in.

You said it’s a single channel recorder. But it does record in stereo with a stereo microphone.

You are quite right Robert... and thanks for pointing it out. They actually now sell quite a range of capsules (including nice x/y stereo) that clip right on the top. In my defence... I was simply looking at the field recording kit, that only came with the lavalier! My bad. 👍

extrashot That’s cool. Just ordered me the lav kit so I’ve been doing hours of research of which recorder to buy. Anyways, great video 👍

can u pliz tell what exactly is this Two-channel audio recording . what exactly is that ? does it mean that i can simultaneously record audio from two sources like one audio from a lavalier mic n another from a shot gun mic ??

Interesting little gadget, i had the zoom h1 recorder and for around £70 it was a good little thing, bit too large for using as a lapel recorder though. I do have to question those shelves and that macbook though, something not quite right about it. Come to think about it, maybe you're not in your office at all!

Thank for the comment... and I'm taking the shelves down now!

I'm sacrificing a chicken so you'll tell me where you got your intro music.
@extrashot5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, The intro is a composite of a couple of sound effects I got from 'Premium Beat' - '0026_orchestral brass riser' is the main one with a silly Da Da I added from speeding up my own recording. The outdo I wrote myself. Hope that helps. Paul

The cos11 does sound much better, less low end rumble and brighter clearer high end.
@extrashot6 жыл бұрын
I agree... it's definitely brighter, and I didn't change the low cut setting of 80Hz between mics. Think I'll be putting 3.5mm jacks on my other Cos11. Thank you for the comment.

Three things are for sure; death, taxes, and wireless failing at the most critical time.

Maybe the F6 is more suited to what you need?

@@extrashot Yeah, I've got the F6. Well worth the purchase.

can this stand alone without lav and record
@extrashot4 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, Unfortunately not... there's no internal mic... although you can buy the shotgun version that includes the SGH-6 mic which attaches to the multi-pin connector on the top... only problem is it makes it about three times the size!
