Dude. Zoom has manuals online. If you bothered to download and read it you'd save yourself from guessing about multitrack recording. It's in menu, Record/Play, Rec file.

Actually for your father in law the best thing would be a Zoom F2. It is even smaller than the F1 and it records in 32bit. Any other 32bit recorder would also be fine.

Do you mean record format like MP3 or WAV? It depends on what you are using it for. WAV is usually higher resolution but requires more memory to save. MP3 I try to go for a higher bitrate to not get any degeneration in the audio.

@@LegacyStudio Hey, I mean REC FILE from the REC FILE menu: L ch → Mono L ch → Stereo L+R → Mono L/R → Stereo L+R → Stereo Again this is using a single lav mic. Thank you.
