This is pretty clever, especially using Gopro's volta for extending battery capacity. I'm gonna build one for my Zoom F3!

Really nice setup. I have the F3 and Clippy mics + bar, so very tempted to implement this. Thank you for taking the time to share.

Try positioning the clippys 180 degrees opposed about as wide as your head. So they are pointed away from one another. This way you can hear sounds 360 degrees more like our ears do. I did this with a pair of Earthworks QTC omnis in a blimp. Listening back later I literally turned around to see what was behind me.

I've gotten really nice results this way using two Behringer B-5 mics with the omni capsules, plugged directly into opposite sides of my H6e. Plugged in directly as in no cable at all. Looks ridiculous but sounds good.

Cool looking rig. Using the GoPro Volta as the battery for the Zoom f3 was a cool idea. I like how the Volta also doubles as a mini tripod. I look forward to how it sounds. Please post an update soon.

Very cool little rig. Similar to mine but I use a small tripod instead of the Volta. Great idea though for the added battery power.

I'm just getting into field recording...well I'm a little down the road already, and was looking at the F3 to add to the kit, and this setup looks almost perfect. Only change I'm going to make is to swap out the Manfrotto tripod with the Insta360 All Purpose tripod. I haven't found anything better than the Insta360 tripod for stability, as the feet slide out to double the legnth while staying extremely low to the ground. It's almost impossible to tip, and I don't believe any wind could throw it over.

Would probably work great. With the volta on the bottom you can just screw in anything you want. Just used it on a boom pole a few days ago to get bird sounds.

This is great. How do you have the F3 attached to the handle?
@CameraRay11 күн бұрын
I connect this to the Volta gopro mount. - Gopro tripod head adapter 1 male 1 female amzn.to/3CDg8k8 I connect that to this Small tripod head amzn.to/3X21Q4I and that screws into the bar.

This is the exact mount I used to connect the F3 to the Volta. amzn.to/4fTbXC8

Solid looking setup. I'm new to this and think this setup would make for a great 2nd step into field recording (I already use a zoom h1). Do you think you could stick one of these on a Nanopole? I'm also wondering what it would be like to use Maximum Clippy wind protection on this kit.
@CameraRay4 ай бұрын
I mount this on a long carbon pole (screws easily into the bottom of Volta) to get bird nest recordings. amzn.to/3zIHOpe Works great. I also use a homemade version of win protection on them. Make from these, amzn.to/3S9NZc7 cover each ball with hose socks.

Very nice setup - Maybe I overlookrd it, but I cannot figure out how the bar is connected to the Volta - how is it fixed to the Volta and how is it adjustable?

great video and rig. What did you use the 3/8 wall anchors you have listed for? totally puzzled lol
@CameraRay4 ай бұрын
Which link goes to a wall anchor? Let me know and I will fix it. Thanks.
@CameraRay11 күн бұрын
The wall anchors are inserted into the tripod adapter. Then you screw down the Rycote Lyre Mount into that. The anchors allow the small Rycote screws to hold securely to the adapter.

Hey, really good setup and ideas! I'm curious about how you managed to attach the adjustment to the Volta, is it another accessory? Thanks a lot for sharing your setup!

Hi this is such a great solution, id love to replicate it! There's one thing I dont quite understand- what is the connector that looks like it goes between the Volta GoPro bit and seems to hold both the zoom and the spigot? that looks like the most important bit that makes everything work :) Actually I didn't quite get the screws bit either- do the mic holders not just rotate? thanks again for the awesome rig design!
@CameraRay4 ай бұрын
The mics rotate and the bar rotates. Parts at in the description. Connecting the Volta gopro pop out mount. - Gopro tripod head adapter 1 male 1 female amzn.to/3CDg8k8 I connect that to this Small tripod head amzn.to/3X21Q4I and that screws into the bar. This piece connects the top Gopro mount to the Zoom amzn.to/4f9e9Wh

Do you think Sennheiser MKE 440 stereo mic and these higher end recorder with build in stereo mic sound just as good to custom setup like this? I don't understand that some people just use recorder, some musician just use Teenage Engineering device build in microphone and some like you custom make a stereo pair, when you will know it's good enough when it need to step up?

is RF Interference a big deal? i plan on getting the same setup but am worried that i wont be able to record in urban areas such as coffee shops, busy city areas, etc.
@CameraRay8 ай бұрын
I have only had trouble when something is very close. 2ft or less for any low powered devices. Strong, low, power lines and and such could cause issues. I have used it around town with no problems, but mostly, it gets used out in the woods.
