You have no idea how much this helped me out! I was going crazy because my camera didn't have a mic port >.< You even showed us how to mount it on the go! Thank you so much!!

That was one of the most excellent video descriptions of how to use the zoom H1 recorder for audio recording in the situation where there is no microphone input within the camera used for recording. A lot of people discuss how to build different rigs, which to me appear complex and somewhat difficult to put together. Your configuration is simple yet very useful. Again, thank you so much!

Zoom H1 is fantastic! I use it for Screen Capture videos on this channel, but also for in car videos on another channel. Perfect for capturing both voice AND engine/exhaust noise for car vids. And SOOOO cheap. And you can either record direct to the SD card and sync in your edit OR you can pass through into another device.

Thanks for this. Been searching for a good mic for my a5100 but all the other reviews at crap. You made this simple. Thanks!!

This was a solution I came up with but I haven't put it together, glad to see that someone out there also thought of this because I haven't been able to find someone that's done this.

I snap instead. It's a shorter sound and helps sync more accurately. Similar to the clack of a cinematography slate.

I do the snap as well

Seems like your audio sync was a millisecond or 2 early. At “Crap” and @1:20 at “2010” .. clips w cameraphone audio of course matched up. sorry to be so trivial. I did not know I was so critical with lip reading. Still thank u for sharing. Another great video. 👍

Hey man! Thank you for sharing this! I am curries that you shared this video a few mouth ago. Now what are you thinking about this setup? Because I am about buy new cameras and lenses. I can buy sony6300 and other stup. I have budget. There is 2 thing. This camera (5100) has no Mic. so sound is important for me. But on the other hand I want to see my self when i am talking. I do also cinematic shoots. So thats why i was going to buy a6300 for good videos. What do you think about this? What should i do now?

Excellent video, especially for non -tech savvy people like me. I recently bought the Zoom H1N and I have been using a Boya BY-M1 mic with my Nikon D5300. I want to connect the mic with the Zoom H1N and then connect the Zoom H1N to my camera, so that I have 2 audio files. 1. Which cable do I need? TRS to TRRS or some other one? 2. Please give some advice regarding an inexpensive lav mic, which is similar in quality and price as Boya BY m1, because the part of Boya BY-M1 with the battery makes it really fragile. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

So if you want to be in the field perhaps 6 feet from the camera, you could use a wireless mic that you would connect to the H1n and then attach the H1n somehow to your body?

Great video! Do you have a link to the smaller gorilla pod that you attached to the H1?

Very useful video man. I have a decent lav mic. I'm wondering whether the audio captured by the zoom h1 through the mic port is comparable to the one captured through the iPhone 6s mic port.
