Thanks! Is it possible to pause a current recording, rewind the recording and record over that same recording (ie override a portion of a pre-existing recording using the same file). Or do you need to record another take on a new recording and then edit / combine the files using an editing software..? Trying to compare that product with the iPhone voice memo software.

There is an "overdub" feature. I haven't played with it though. And as I understand it, it mixes the recorded take with the incoming signal. So it wouldn't do what you wanted anyway. The H1n is great for what it's built for. Just capturing sound files for editing in a computer.

Jessica Bouma I have about 4-5 voice recorders that's broke and what to get the files I want to be able to hear the @t know how a pc gets broke and you have things on a pc but you need whatever that's on it. It's the same way I want whats on my recorders.If I can send the broke recorders to a company that can get the files off of it and put it on something to where I can hear it and make copies ??

There's an old saying that says, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it!' The old H1 has a clearer sound than the H1n. (I have to go in my Logic Pro to bring out the EQ treble) and the way to transfer files from the H1 was simple as pie for PC & Apple. I guess they were bored so they decided to mess with the way to transfer files. Now, for my iMac, I have to buy that Lightning cord or deal with that little MicroSD card every time to the SD adapter to transfer my recorded files. It was fine just the way it was with the H1. I do like that the Auto Level and Wave features are on the screen so you won't accidentally hit those buttons on the back of the old H1. But oh well I do like the H1n so I will keep it.

Very nice review! I have a few questions if anyone using this can answer: 1) Can I use this to record from my Piano via Aux cable? (6.35mm to 3.5mm conversion, then the 3.5mm aux cable) 2) Can this be used as a microphone for Video calls? 3) This might sound silly but can I use this as external microphone on Phones? 1) Yes, you can. Zoom H1N have a MIC & LINE input. The signal from piano output is LINE signal. 2) Yes, you can. If you plug in the USB cable in the Zoom H1N, then Zoom can work as card reader or external audio interface. In card reader mode you can copy files from the microSD card. The Zoom in external audio interface mode is a sound card for Windows 10. One stereo input and one stereo output in same time. 3) I don't know. Perhaps.

What’s your gain level if you use it outside as a microphone in your hand?

Hello Tietscho, I mostly use my H1N indoors, but the few times I recorded outside I was at 4 on the gain level. So I would say it depends on the conditions outside, like how windy it is or if you're close to a road with cars passing by, etc.. The best in my opinion is to do a test at different gain levels and listen back to see which level works best for you. Hope this helps, let me know what gain level you ended up using.

Hello, it'll take a maximum of 32GB and there is no minimum capacity, just make sure you get a large enough card for your recording needs. Hope this helps :)

Hi, this video was really helpful for me to buy this recorder! but there's one problem.. I usually use this recorder individually so I need to check which record is what only by reading the name of the record. So I connected it to my PC and renamed the records, but when I try to play the record in the recorder, it says the file does not exist.... Is it impossible to rename the records in this recorder?:(

No I do not want to spend $120 just to use auto level. Plus the gain is useless under 6 so you basically HAVE to use auto level. And the noise from touching/using the device is massive. You CANNOT recreate the auto-settings too. Idk why.

@@ReviewDetective I appreciated the review - it's very nicely shot, the story line flowed well and it was hitting important main points... really nicely produced overall. Somewhat similar to how Shifty was disappointed, I felt my perception of the review quality fall dramatically because of the music - I'm sharing a perspective as you're making an effort here that's worth respect and response, not because I'm a negative self-righteous ass. I felt the music necessarily moved the review down from a balanced level towards a basic level review, in my mind, I was thinking right when the music continued, that it must be for consumers with little knowledge and/or requirements and not much concerned about the sound recording quality... of this recording device. Experiencing the device's recording capability with sound via KZbin, my laptop's sound and jack to my cheap headphones isn't quite fair, but with background music playing it's not of any value - yet the fundamental aspect of the device is that it records sound. To not test and review an items fundamental purpose is generally not a complete review - which is why Shifty was shocked, and as I was watching, I was questioning whether it was from a review mill like EZ VID WIKI, and I was questioning at the time if you had legitimacy to talk about the product and the functions or even knew much about sound, as I questioned who this review was for - a consumer of this type of product would want to know how it sounds, right? - Those are the questions of doubt I had whilst watching it, and I nearly clicked off, except I wanted to see if anyone mentioned it. Shifty did. Shifty knows sound quite seriously, I suspect. Sharing as I thought you did a great job overall besides that.
