Tutorials don’t get any simpler or more clear than this. I just got one of these H5s. This helps.

I agree with all the comments below, the info and how it was delivered was perfect and it has given me the confidence to buy a Zoom and start using it.

Good tutorial. Am wondering why the Record buttons went from L/R to 1/2 at 3:52. Thanks. I thought the 1/2 buttons were used for external mics. Thanks.

3:40 the best recording format is WAV 96kHz/24bit.
@RyanTrauman5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, Frank B. I agree that this is certainly the highest quality format. However, I think there needs to be a balance between file size and sound quality. I can totally see using the 96/24 combo if you're recording instruments and voice for mixing in a more complicated composition, and there's certainly nothing wrong with recording your voice at those same quality levels. But when I'm offering advice on recording voiceovers for digital stories, I don't really see that it's worth maxing out the quality. I work with a lot of people who use older, slower machines, so processing demands are relevant. I also work with people using Chromebooks who prefer to do their recording in a single take and then upload the file right to WeVideo as part of their video editing. In the spirit of trying to keep the tutorial as simple as possible, I just chose the recording quality that I thought would work best for most people who actually arrive at the video. But I can certainly see plenty of situations where 96/24 would be the best choice. Again, thanks for the comment.

At 3:52 you didn't explain that you plugged mics into the xlr inputs on the bottom of the unit. and they are out of frame on your camera shot.

That was a fantastically clear tutorial. The content, presentation and the pace of delivery really helped to pick up the information. Thanks. Is it possible for me to download and listen to my recordings in my Hifi system rather than my computer? Either by downloading to èither the SD card or a USB memory stick. Both of which can be accessed from my HiFi. Thanks again. Tom a
@StoriesStories-gi3ny4 жыл бұрын
It probably depends on your HiFi receiver, but my understanding is that most systems should be able to read your SD card right out of the recorder. You might consider bringing them onto your desktop first, though, in order to name the files clearly. That way, it will be easier to navigate and open the files from your receiver. Let me know if it works out!

You switch from using the L, R inputs for the stereo mic for inputs 1 and 2 halfway through? Why is that? Confusing…

What if you don’t have headphones It looks like a speaker on the back But it’s barely audible ? It’s gotta playback better then that? Is that a speaker on the back ? Plus what do you use to clean it,mine is all sticky ,lol I know it’s funny but it is sticky

Surely the L & R should be engaged for onboard mics

I'm thinking exactly the same thing. Can you confirm that the video shows the setting for external mics? Otherwise I remain confused...

Lou Glandfield . At 1:40 is the setting for internal mic. 3:50 is setting for external mic

How do I connect the Zoom h5 recorder to the phone? I tried it with a USB cable, 2-line or 3-line aux cable, but it didn't work. I tried All outputs. Line out, or microphone out, usb out. It doesn't work. Please help
@B-S-K3 жыл бұрын
I recently tried to bundle L+R plus an additional microphone via input 1 and play them together via the audio interface (multitrack mode) to the PC via USB. It did not work, only the L+R channel is transmitted, although I heard both signals via headphones in the Zoom H5 and the leveling also worked perfectly. The necessary Windows driver was installed and displayed correctly. Does mixing 4 channels via USB not work at all? Or have I set something wrong? HI Claudia, Check voltage if you are using XLR connection it may be under powered and you could use a different adapter.

Is the H5 better than using a Shure mv88 with an iPhone?
@RyanTrauman5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, AdrianVino! I do really like the mv88, but I found that I got better sound for voiceover recordings (and most other situations, too) with the H5 onboard mics. But if you're really invested in keeping things small and portable, I think the MV88 is a perfectly serviceable mic. (Also, depending on what you're using it for, the Mid-Side recording can be pretty interesting to mess around with in editing. But if the extra $100 and increased bulk, I'd go with the H5. Also, the H5 is much better option if you're thinking about recording with different mics in different situations. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
