Thanks I’m glad for the info. Saved me $300😮I only liked the idea because it was a quick convenience way of recording for music without having to make a full set up using condenser microphones?

Hi Anthony can you clarify why this device doesn’t fit your needs? Because by your comment it does tick off the box of helping you record without setting up condensers. It just doesn’t do multitrack recording very well which they offer in their R series

@@efnbrg I seen other videos and it does look interesting but for multi track recording I would have to place it upside down for acoustic guitar and the other thing I was concerned was the plug-ins are like a spiders legs taking up more room or messy. Someone else mentioned they don’t look like they can take much of a pounding if they fall to the ground after listening to a few reviews, I think the tascam 8 would be the one to get and it has more weight to it. I like the idea that it’s portable and ready to go. I can always go back to my daw later. These recorders are great for recording ideas to start off and transferring to a daw later. There especially excellent for acoustic guitar and vocals. I already owned the zoom r4 recorder. It was an excellent idea. I just thought it needed more tracks and power supply. The built-in mic is right where it should be and everything is visible and positioned properly. I think zoom8 is a spiderweb nest to begin with. Tascams been around for a while for an extra $100 dinaris!

@@anthonyacosta7235 ok this makes sense. The Tascam Portacapture x8 also has higher quality recording at 32-bit rate float which I dont think exists in the Zoom H8. Good to hear your thoughts on the Zoom R4. I think I will get one soon. Lately I have had the best success with the Tascam DP-008ex because it functions like a proper multitrack recorder, but it records at 16/44.1 and i have to plug in a condenser mic to use it.

Hello elliot, loved the video. I wanna ask you if you think the h8 xy channels are suitable for beatboxing? I already work with a friend's h4, it's pretty decent at catching most sounds generated from the throat and mouth. I'm thinking of investing in an h8 as I don't have a mic or soundcard, so I feel like it would include all those functions at once.

Thanks Chris. I think the XY mics are a bit sensitive for beatboxing. With a windsock from Amazon it could improve it. You might be onto something though in terms of a compact solution for getting a wide area - I always thought of beatboxing sounds as coming directly from the mouth. But in general the zoom mics are quick to get distorted by wind which means you won’t be able to place it that close to you. A dynamic microphone like a sm58 with a windsock on the other hand is more resilient. The zoom h8 would allow you to have both a dynamic mic and it’s xy mics. Also look into the zoom h6 which could do the same thing. One final note, I don’t love the idea of the zoom being my audio interface, it’s a good option in a pinch but I always like to have a small focusrite in my kit of options.

@@efnbrg thank you for your thorough reply Elliot. I know the h8 is not the most optimal option sound wise, but I'm going to invest in it, as I 'm on a budget and getting a mic and a sound card is more expensive, especially since I don't have a proper work station laptop on which I can download softwares, so I'm pretty limited. I'll let you know how it goes when I get it, thanks!

@@chrisabdo3019 yeah i hear you, that's the beauty of these types of machines is that you can work on music and only focus on music when you use it. also these days a lot of stores have good return policies so if you find it's not working out you can backtrack and try something else. hope the experiment goes well!
