Zoom problem in Canon speedlight 580EX II Motion lapse film

It's been awhile I know, but I was wondering if you could tell me the Terminal Identification of the slot where you would hook up a External Battery Pack? Looks like 3 Prongs in a Vertical configuration. I just don't know how to tell?? Please let me know, if you know. I'm in the process of building a external Power Pack and I'm stuck at this point. THANKS

If anybody is having problems with their flashgun stuck at 14mm in manual mode and can’t work out how to set the zoom to auto. You set it to auto in your camera menu ( flash settings). Just press camera menu button and look for flash settings.

Does the stepper motor work or not ? It could be a broken cable or the position detection thing/strip with the contact brush near the screw spindle ?

Thanks for the info Dorf When I turn on the flash I can hear some motor noise but the parabol inside does not move at all, so I think it could be the one part of the steppermotor which is actually 2 motor's put together, (one for each direction I guess). I do not the repair manual but only the Part's manual, and there is too less info about it. I have work so much with Canon flash's, so i do not have so much experience yet... (I had repaired some Nikon speedlight 600 and 800 which is different build, and also some multiblitz and broncolor studio flash') But I will take a closer look at those part's you mention, thanks for that :-) Cheers Kenneth

Well Dorf, thanks for the hints.., even if there is very little repair info out there for this flash, I will open it again and look for other possibility's....

I have no problem with this part, but need to know how to replace rummer covers covering thde side for the battery pack covers, and connection cables,

I have the exact same problem with my flash.. do you manage to fix? do you think is it worthy to replace the whole flash head assembly?

I did not manage to fix it because of no spare parts, but if you can find a cheap broken flash the same type, but with another issue, I would guess it should be possible to fix :-)

This was just a try to repair but I don't have a Canon flash, I shoot most of the time with Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Lumix, Canon....etc..etc.

Hey thanks a lot I was able to fix my flash, the pin that protrudes from the motor assembly and fits into the reflector assembly had broken off.
